If your one year contract ends on say June 1, and it started a year ago on June 1, do you get a few days to pack up and head to the airport (long bus ride for me) and still get paid for those few days of travel/packing/bank account close out/clean apartment/etc?
I mean, you can't just work up until the last day and then fly out after your arc and visa expires...
I ask because my school will try to pull anything on me. It's been a year of that and I want to be prepared with the right defense...
thanks |

If your contract started on June 1st last year, it ends on May 31st this year. Immigration is no stranger to the concept of Inclusive Date. You certainly can, and quite likely will, be expected to work to the very end of your contract if said date falls on a scheduled school day. Your best option is to budget funds for a few days stay in Korea after the end of your contract. Those funds will be for lodging, eating, and, if necessary, making the rounds of the appropriate government offices if you're shorted at the end. Since it's a public school, the likelihood of getting shorted is much smaller than at a hagweon, but "better safe than sorry." |

it's a toss-up. i knew people at public schools that got 3-6 days off prior to the end of their contract to pack, send stuff home, close accounts, sell things, etc. But they don't have to do this, if your school has been a dick to you in the past year, i'd expect to work until the last possible day. |
