|
|
Hello all,
I was wondering if people would be willing to share some songs and games and youtube clips that would work well with the coming GEPIK classes? We are all at pretty much the same point with the books...so are all trying to come up with games and songs and things for the same topics...I think it would be good if we could share...certainly helpful for us newbie types.
There is a lesson about birthdays for example...and a game could be pass the parcel...so that when the music stops, the student passes the gift to the person next to them saying, "this is for you". The student who receives the gift says "thank-you" and unwraps a layer. There could be little things throughout the parcel, or just one thing at the end of the game. A good song for the game would be the birdie (or chicken) song...it's on youtube. I think that this is a great game...and would go don well with threes and fours.
So...any ideas for the next couple of weeks? Help! |

For interesting pattern practice I have used duck, duck, goose with the words of the dialogue/text. With your co-teacher split the class in half and take one half to another room if yours isn't large enough. Have the dialogue presented somewhere for reference, and then just model it. The kids will catch on super quick, and they will love it (def. for 3rd and 4th; haven't tried it with the 5th or 6th). I just use a double repeated word to start the chase, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy happy.
Station games are fun too. I have 4 stations around my room and you can prepare many different types of activities to go with each station: simple Q/A, word recognition, pattern practice, vocabulary practice, binaries (right/wrong), etc. For 3rd grade with "hello, I'm ____." I had simple flashcards made with a trait of each of the text characters on it: minsu's triangular hair, Tony's glasses, Zeeto's ears/pointy things, and the kids would run (controllably) to the station and show me a gesture representing the characteristic and say, "Hello, my name is ____." So it was basically a pattern practice with gestures. You can time this to add a bit of competition/excitement.
As for youtube clips, I use them frequently, but I download them with vixy.net, so I don't have the links to post. But here's one for an example, Jurassic Fart. I used this for Chapter 2: Don't Do That! I frontloaded the sentences: don't do that, do that, watch out!, help me please, and are you ok?. Then, watched the video, and then went back through to see where the kids paired up the sentences with the video. |

Nice one icnelly...these are all pretty gouda...and are the sorts of things we should be sharing really...it's always good to have new games and clips for the kids...I mean...I could sit here and recycle the games and clips that last years teacher presented...but I'm not going to do that. |

If you guys are sharing, please think about putting up a folder or materials in the EFL Classroom 2.0 SHARING forum.
Very simple. Just choose a category (say educational organizations -- I just added it) and then start a thread . Briefly describe and upload. Anyone on EFL Classroom 2.0 can then download and comment and conversely upload additional things. A way of making this whole process less "hidden".....
Icnelly, I'll be putting a button on the main page to your videos shortly! Some cool ones and I appreciate your efforts....... Of course, your's and Rob's site is listed in our resource area....
Cheers,
DD
