I am stupid. I overstayed my VISA by two days. I thought it was the 8th and it was the 6th. And I am stupid.
They didn't say much to me on the way out of the immigration office of Incheon International. Then as I was leaving the guy who stamps my passport said, "you no come back for three months OK"
I said "what do you mean?"
He said "I don't know"
So I assume there is a penalty for overstay and I assume it is three months?
My question is, I have a secured job in a month and I want to go back to Korea and work. If I apply for an E2 VISA again will I get it?
I thought perhaps it is only tourist visas that I can't get for three months |

I hope I am wrong, we will see. Anybody, PLEASE HELP!?!?!?!
I wouldn't have minded paying a fine but a three month ban????
I just got two tickets in Thailand on my motorcycle, no helmet, no insurance. Total cost 7.50 US!!!
I paid them with a smile. |

I could be wrong but I thought that you still had 14 days to leave the country once your e2 visa expires (I'm assuming your teaching legally).
Give efl-law a buzz.
Also check out the immigration site |

I think you have to leave the day your visa expires, or get an extension. I really think the 14 day thing is a myth. Be glad if someone could clear this one up. |

I have the answer. The 14 day rule is a myth it appears.

Qn: After my contract expires, when MUST I leave Korea?
Answer: Your visa will expire on or about the same day as the contract. That is the date you MUST leave Korea or you will be fined by Immigration. BUT, if you want to stay after your contract expires, you MUST go to Immigration before the Visa expires, tell them the contract is expiring on such and such a date, but that you would like to stay in Korea (preparing to leave) and Immigration will grant you an extension of up to 30 days.
BUT remember to go to Immigration before the working visa expires!

I just went through something like this not too long ago.
I had to deal with imm at the airport, and was told that up to 10 days the fine is ARBITRARY - just depends on you & them about whether it is applied; in any case, it's a check on your perm record.
After 10 days, the fine is MANDATORY, and a big blotcho on the record.
If you go to the office BEFORE (not mok-dong; the one up by the Palace), then they will usually grant you an extension - again, how long depends on you & them. seems rather arbitrary.
If you had a job, I imagine that things could be smoothed over.
