Does anyone work here, and if so, did you have to pay your air fare and get reimbursed upon arrival?
Need to know due to a possibility of taking the job. |

i received the PM u sent...but unfortuentely i havent posted 25 posts...so i cant send one back
about suncheon. i finished working at a hagwon there in march and will be returning to that same hagwon come june.
about the city hall position...an ex co worker/good friend just started working there this past month. he says its cake. he teaches at 2 or 3 different locations per week (community center and a library to teach ajummas and kids free english classes). the schedule is pretty simple or so he tells me.
they have 2 positions open the last time i checked (about 2 weeks ago). one of the spotsi heard is probably the most desirable (see: easiest) of the bunch. if u can check up on those.
there are a couple of hagwons still looking for teachers in suncheon that i know of, but since ive worked for them before i wouldnt recommend them unless someone REALLY needed a job.
hope that helps...if u have any other questions...email me: [email protected] |

Hi, I'm currently working at City Hall having just started a month ago. I'm new to the job but not new to Korea. So far, I've been very impressed with the management, in particular, the foreign liaison who is very diligent and professional.
I was in Korea at the time so I'm not sure of the situation in regards to airfare from your home country but I was reimbursed for Visa run to Japan. You'll also receive a settling-in allowance to help you out when you arrive and will be provided with health insurance. It's all above board and professional, I've been happy with dealing with management so far. Much, much better - light years - than the average hagwon. |

I can't say anything for certain, as I've only started working there myself.
But, I think they should be fine with reimbursing you of the airfare, despite it being costly. They need 2 or 3 teachers at the moment so I think they're just keen to get people here. As far as OT goes, I'm sure you could work something out with them as they are a couple of teachers short and would probably be more than happy if you were willing to do a few extra classes for some extra cash. I guess the only issue would be as most classes are held somewhere between 10am and 6pm, so they could be classes available but at the same time as a class you're currently scheduled for.
I have my own place these days and they reimburse me of my rent. But, the housing is at Shidae Apartments, where 80%+ of the foreigners in town live. The apartments are fairly reasonable, though a tad old nowadays, most are 14 pyeong and have a smaller front room, kitchen, larger back room and toilet. I lived at Shidae for three years in two separate apartments and they were quite good as far as accommodation for foreign teachers goes, all in all. |

I found the (so called) communicator from Suncheon City Hall to be incompetent and unable to respond to normal questions about the contract and housing.
After she offered me a position and sent a contract, she did not have even the professional courtesy to reply to my simple questions about the contract provisions and housing. Apparently, questioning/negotiating is not tolerated.
She disappeared. No way would I want to go there. |
