Nice troll. But I'll bite.

BBC News my ass. You don't even post the link.

Why in the hell should the US give any aid to anybody? I think its about $3 million too much. See? Americans are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Most charitable nation in the world? USA.

Anyways, the government has been seizing the aid that arrives. You can bet your life it is going to the military.

The tyranny of good intentions:
Quote:

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) - Myanmar's junta seized U.N. aid shipments headed for hungry and homeless survivors of last week's devastating cyclone, prompting the world body to suspend further help on Friday.

The U.N. said the aid included 38 tons of high-energy biscuits and arrived in Myanmar on Friday on two flights from Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates.

"All of the food aid and equipment that we managed to get in has been confiscated," U.N. World Food Program spokesman Paul Risley said. "For the time being, we have no choice but to end further efforts to bring critical needed food aid into Myanmar at this time."

I think a lot of countries are holding back on aid right now. Even the UN temporarily halted their delivery flights, since the junta was seizing supplies meant for survivors.

The US is a disgrace? Oh please. Way to take a human tragedy and turn it into a "let's rip the US again" event.

I'd say the junta is a bigger disgrace:

Quote:
BANGKOK The military leaders of Myanmar seized a shipment of United Nations food aid on Friday intended for victims of a devastating cyclone, declaring that they would accept donations of food and medicine but not the experienced aid workers international groups say are in equally short supply there.

NY Times article.

I remember after the tsunami when US helicopters were first into the inaccessible shoreline of Sumatra with food and water, the UN representative said the US helicopters were "worth their weight in gold". That same service was offered to the Burmese. First in with a helicopter of food beats pledged money on paper.

Sorry if my above post looked like US being better than others. I got defensive after the original post. The entire International community is together on this.
The point should be that the amount of help that the UN and entire international community can give is staggering; from immediate food and water delivery to temporary shelter, later water treatment plants, shelter, rebuilding schools and roads. The amount of help is immense and the international community has this in place and did it in Sumatra.
The Myanmar Junta is turning down all this, causing needless suffering for the Myanmar people.

Doesn't matter how much they pledge if the Junta will not allow aid workers into the country.
