What's the cheapest way to go about making an international call on my cell phone? I've always used calling cards on a land line before, but in my new place I figured I didn't really need a landline ... so anyone have any thoughts? |

you can go to places like family mart, and they'll have international calling cards. there's also a place in itaewon if you're in seoul, or soon will be, right around the corner from hooker hill. it's an indian grocery store. they usually have the best deals on calling cards from what i found. |

Almost all my internatinal calls are to the US from my cellphone.
I dial 00727 then 1 (country code for US) then the number. I have found that 00727 costs about $6.00 - $7.00 per hour.
I did not need to set up an account with them...they get your mailing address from your cell phone provider and mail you a bill. Very neat...
Accustomed as I was to the outrageous charges of US cell phone providers ($100 per month for XXX minutes, minutes being used for incoming and outgoing calls, additional monthly charges in order to have access to international calls, etc.) $24 per month plus about $.001 per minute for outgoing only seems incredible to me...) |

I know this doesn't answer your original question but have you ever thought about using Skype? If I use the SkypeOut service, it's about 2 cents a minute to call to the U.S. |

Even better, get a SkypeIn number and have them call you locally. If you're computer's on, it automatically forwards to your cellphone. |

There's a number in Korea that you can call from your cell phone to make international phone calls (US, Canada, and China) for free (aside from airtime, of course).
It's called IP Call (아이피콜). It apparently routes calls over the Internet like Skype, but you dial it from a cell phoneI'm told it doesn't work from a landline, though I've never tried personally.
Anyway, here's what you do. Dial 1544-0044 or 1688-0044. When the announcement comes on and dial country code (1 for the US or Canada) + area code + phone number + #.
Happy phoning!

I use 15440044 all the time for calls to the US. Its actuallly cheaper to call my friends from my cell phone here than it is for a cell phone in the states! |
