Im currently working for a public school thru GEPIK. Today I was informed that I must go on a one day hiking trip. I dont want to go and I will protest it.
Has anyone tried to portest such an event ,and what was the outcome.
If you got away with not going , did you get the day off.
I looked at the contract and couldnt see anything that would indicate that I had an obligation to attend the hiking trip.

Sounds like a free day off (I had one today, one kid said they were having a picnic, but I doubt everyone did LOL). There must be more to the story. Why do you not want to go?

Well if it's on a regular working day, I guess you have to go. If it's a holiday, give 'em the finger.

1- I feel like Im being forced to do it.
Do I want to spend the day with a bunch of people whom I have nothing in common with
I think it is a waste of a day.Like imentioned ,its on a holiday ,therefore why should i be forced into it ,especially on my holiday.
Besides , me and the co teachers arent seeing eye to eye , its on a matter of time before we dont say hello in the mornings

The only thing I think that you've shown by this thread and the other one:

http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=120254

Misery loves company.

Go on the damn trip, stop being difficult for the hell of it.

I'd say a good 90% of native teacher's problems in PS on this forum is the NT being a pain in the ass and pretty much self inflicted.

So one day of hiking etc and you don't want to go.

The benefits of going far out weigh the negatives.

Showing that you are one of them will pay of dividends in the long run. An investment of 24hours to get a good handful of teachers in your pocket.

I know people will say it's your time etc etc etc etc however sometimes it helps to just do things.

Anyway you won't listen and will ignore any advice given so carry on moaning.

If you are being told to go then it's a paid day for you according to the LSA. Also, if you are injured, it's techically work so your employer is liable for your injuries and loss of income, damages, medical bills, etc.

Cheers

You're either drunk or a Korean flamer. Your consistent incorrect placement of the comma suggests the latter.

^Your incorrect placement of my full stop and then fact it's after 11 and you're still up on a school night tells me you're drunk.

Ignore the personal attacks on you, OP, you are standing up for yourself.

Check your contract. You are with a PS? It probably says you work M-F. If the trip is on a weekend, tell them you have plans and that you make plans b/c you NEVER have to work on weekends.

The comment about benefits outweighing the negatives does have bearing. You may avoid friction if you go. On the other hand, you may end up following orders for the rest of your contract.

Examine your situation at your school and you contract, then move on.

I would love to go on a hiking trip instead of teaching one day. If they had "hiking teachers" in Korea that just took kids hiking everyday I would be THERE. What's the problem? If it's on a weekday and you're getting paid and all that then whynot just roll with the punches and go? And maybe even enjoy it.
