My co-worker is leaving. He is concerned that the company will screw him, so he wants to stay in Korea for a while to badger them in the event that they withold anything from him. He will have been here for over seven months by the time he leaves.
Anyway, how long is he allowed to stay in Korea after his last day of employment? Thanks

usually you have to leave the country within two weeks of your E-2 visa being revoked. i'm not sure what he would need to stick around for in terms of not getting screwed because if he signed a one year contract and left after 7 months he's not entitled to any severence pay or a flight back home. This is assuming he's a teacher of course.
If not, I'd tell him to collect all moneys he's entitled to before he tells them he's leaving if he hasn't already.
In either case, I hope it works out. |

He's worried about his final paycheck and housing deposit. It's not uncommon for hagwons to try to withold these.
He's also worried about his pension, but I told him that, provided the school has actually been paying it, he shouldn't have a problem. We have health cards and i recently got a tax refund, so I've no reason to suspect that they aren't paying our pensions.
