My friend is looking for cheap specs. What's the best place to go with the most options? I've seen plenty of places scattered around, but trying to avoid costly stuff.

I've been to loads of optitians here. They are all the same and equally good and basically equally cheap. Exepting the designer shops (not Davinchi, et al), it just depends on what frame you go for. Lenses are usually 30,000 frames are usually 40,000. My last pair was 55,000 - ready in two hours. Eyetest included. You can request different sized lenses etc. Very good service, IMO.

The pair I bought in Korea just a little bit ago was less than 100,000W but ended up not being too comfortable to wear with my bigger head. I wasn't able to get my glasses done so quickly because my correction was not normal or something. Like the other person said, as long as you stay away from designer the frames shouldn't be too bad... it's too bad most of them don't have any form of warranty for them...

And $600 for a pair of glasses in Canada?? holy shyte mon, is that where the health care draws the line?

just want to clarify: Davinchi is not a designer shop. Was a bit more expensive and not as good as my local one. A bit less care taken.

After I spent 100000W on my spects(it is also good), I heard from my colleague that there are good opticals in Namdaemun who can do the same for 50000~60000W. No further info available with me at the moment.

you don't need an English speaking Opticians. Glasses are Ang-yung, or point... the tests simply involve numbers (use korean or they will know English 1-9) and the colours red and green.

I'm sure the tests are designed for the illiterate anyway.

The Opticians at Emart are good and they have a wide range of glasses from very cheap to higher end brands.

It's where I got mine.

I'm wondering if it's possible to get glasses here for a friend back home.

I have a friend with a number of medical conditions that prevent him from working full time. One of these conditions is poor eyesight in one eye, and because he can't afford glasses he is left with severe headaches as a result of the other eye working too hard.

If I were to get his prescription from him, could I just bring that in to a glasses place and get him a pair?

Maeil,

If you have the prescription it should be no problem at all. The price of glasses here is very reasonable.
