Wonderful board and lots of infomration.

I have been browsing this board for a few months now reading what I can. I am looking seriously at going to S. Korea to teach, however I must admit the more I read the more I feel like I am lost. I research, but in the end, I feel I am taking a big chance on the quality of the job I take. I don't know anyone that has done this, thus I feel I am in the dark no matter how much I read and research. I just see so many bad experiences and horror stories. What is your advice in getting past this?

Second:

I have a M.S. Ed. Degree. I am certified in NY state to teach grades 1-6. I also have one year experience as a classroom teacher. I have great references from my admin. and good reviews. I know this is much more than what many people have who teach over there, however is it worth anything? No I have not taught English before, however I am a 4th grade teacher and deal with all literacy related education daily. My question: Does this lend me more or different opportunities? Does it allow for me to bargin for a higher starting salary? Are there any benefits to it at all? University jobs?

Thank you for your time. I continue to read old and new posts daily.

It is scary. You can research for ages, but still not be sure what you are getting yourself into.

With your qualification, you should be able to get a university job. You also might want to look at international schools or foreign language schools. They pay a LOT more.

If you are really cautious, come over here on a tourist visa and find a job on your own. Then you would know a lot more about what you're getting yourself into.

Good luck.

Masters in EDU?

Totally go for a Uni or International School...

Hakwons treat you like crap.

Public schools can't pay very well.
