With all the mad cow craziness I remembered reading that sprouts are a really common cause of food poisoning and I thought I'd look it up.
The worst case was in Japan when 17 people were killed.
| Quote: |
| The largest outbreak linked to sprouts took place in Japan in 1996, when 6,000 people got sick and 17 died after eating radish sprouts contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. |

Also the Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns against easting Asian dishes containing sprouts. Ok, so they didn't specifically say Bee Bum Bap.
| Quote: |
Consumers who belong to high risk groups, such as young children, seniors or people with weak immune systems, should avoid eating all sprouts of any kind especially alfalfa sprouts and mung bean sprouts. In addition, you should also avoid eating cooked mung bean sprouts found in stir-fries or soups unless you can determine that they have been thoroughly cooked. When eating out, be sure to check for the presence of sprouts in salads, sandwiches, soups and Asian dishes.

I am not in the slightest bit afraid of either mad cow or mad sprouts. But, I think this info could fuel some pretty comical comebacks. |

I knew it!
Those Korean devils want to destroy our culture and they set up the whole ESL industry in order to lure the 'sons of England' over here so that we would stop eating greasy, stodgy and bland food and eat their contaminated food and spread the diseases they cause to our friends and familly when we return from our sojourn here!
WE MUST ban EVIL BEAN SPROUTS from entering our countries in the WEST! It is a cultural imperialistic sabotage!!!!!
If the west starts consuming bean sprouts, the very fabric of our pure blood and familly lives will be at dire risk!!!!!!!!!! |

From the same newspaper's April 9, 2008 edition:

And the public here is freaking out about "mad cow" disease? Kind of makes you wonder who it is that's mad, doesn't it? |
