I feel like I have heard that the tarriff on electronics is 60%. Thats an insane amount. I want to buy a bunch of things on ebay. One of the items is 135$ US.

Is it possible to avoid tarriff charges?

For example, if the item is a low enough cost, or if the source of the item is another country (canada, austrailia, somewhere in europe)?

If you get the seller to write gift on the package it should pass. I had my family send a nintendo wii and no tariff. It was labeled birthday gift

I've heard was SKConqueror suggests works. I ordered a watch from Amazon recently, but rather than have it shipped directly to me and pay a 20 percent duty, I had it mailed to my parents, who will send it to me as a "gift".

I'd offer to let you know if it works, but it will be a few weeks and therefore probably too late.

It's insane only if you believe it. I've never paid more than 20%. For all my laptops, it was even 10%. On top of that, I've never paid duty on anything less than $200.

Just a note: if you do get hit with duty, they will add the cost of the shipping to the cost of the item and calculate the duty on the total.

Such a small package will get through with such a strategy, but marking a computer or digital camera or the like won't.
