Have you noticed? Rather than arguing against the import of US beef at all, the argument has cleverly been shifted to importing beef from cows older than 30 months.
Someone is very smart, and is making the whole anti-US beef crowd play the fool. Was it LMB? Was it the US beef producers? Who thought up this brilliant strategy? They've totally changed the argument from, "We shouldn't import any US Beef" to "We can't allow beef that's older than XX months."
All of the "US Beef is bad" arguments will look foolish once the US agrees to the import of beef products from cattle equaling the same age as what Americans eat.
When I negotiate contracts in Korea, a common tactic Koreans use it to try to take thing away rather than talk about giving a raise. That way, they hope you will accept even less, or walk away with the same contract you've already had (no raise). They try to change the route of the negotiations by using this tactic.
The same thing is happening with beef. The Korean people are getting all riled-up and angered by the anti-beef crowd (which was expected). Someone is cleverly getting them to vent their anger on the 30 month issue, which will later make no difference when the USA agrees to the import of younger beef.
End result: Beef comes in.
Point this out to certain Koreans, and they don't take it very well. |
