Changdeokgung http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changdeokgung

Anyone visiting Seoul should really check out this palace (and the ajoining garden). You have to schedule it for a tour (Korean, English, or Chinese), but it's worth it IMO. I took one of my visiting buds there last weekend and thought I'd share some pics.

Anyone else been there?

I think I've been there 4 times now.

It's a good 3 hour walkaround, but it's way over-restored. It's hard to know which parts are original and which were built in 1963, whatever.

I enjoy the walk - but would love it if the tour guide (usually thesame girl in all the times that I've been there) could give some more (interesting) historical anecdotes.

If that's the one with the Secret Garden, then yeah, I like that one. It's too bad they don't allow you to stay too long there, though. I like the King's Lake in Kyeongbok Palace, too.

The other one, by City Hall (Deoksu Palace), the one with the "dump your lover" sidewalk, is not that great.

You can go there without tours on Thursdays during spring, summer, and fall for 15,000 won. You have run of most of the grounds.
