My current contract ends today. The new contract starts tomorrow. When am I supposed to receive the severance, along with this month's pay?

Should I be uptight about it and how long should I wait before I start to pester them?

My co-teacher said I should get it this week, 'maybe'. She said something about getting half of my airfare to return home in July, today, or something like that.

Thank you.

if you stayed in your contract was for less than 12 months you are not entitled to any severance.

They told me just now, they'll pay me severance, the month's pay, half of my forthcoming air ticket and housing deposit today, but they will take out some for tax. That's what the co-teacher said.

Anyway, I won't hold my breath and I will check the bank balance tonight.

Also remember that severance is not a month's full pay, but the average.

Technically, it's up to 14 days after you LEAVE the company; that is why is is called severance... you're not supposed to get it until you sever your employment with them. Just because paying severance after the completion of every contract has become the industry "standard" does not mean they have to do so. They CAN wait until you do not renew before paying you anything (unless your contract explicitly states they will pay it at the end of the contract).

Any job paying you your severance will pay on the last day and possibly a few days before to give you time to bank as they know you have to leave country on your last day. It took a lot of effort on my part during my final month to ensure my final arrangements happened as nothing is automatic despite that they should had already told you what the arrangements are and paid the money.

Darned hagwon directors are slimy the industry over.

it's full of it - you're the one who keeps mentioning goats, I never met many living in England. Nevertheless, a strong interest in goats I suppose is normal for somebody like you Laughing

I checked my bank balance, I think they have paid me about 3.6 million won. I'm guessing it could be the housing deposit, half of my airfare, and the month's severance (900,000 + 800,000 + 1.9 million won approx.).

I don't know how much more is to come or when. I'll ask my co-teacher if she can find out what exactly they've paid.

My co-teacher said they paid me up until May 13th and the rest of the money will be paid on May 25th. She also said they paid my airfare.

I hope you get a lot more benefits with a 1.9 million won salary in the year 2008. Maybe you deserve to stay at that school forever. What a life to avoid everyone in school and real life while doing the opposite here, it is your comfort zone.

What are they going to pay you on the 25th of may?

It sounds like you are a hermit.

We shall see what will be paid on the 25th. Apparently 12 days worth of pay.

I am a hermit and proud of it. Laughing
