You're on the #1 Seoul subway line. There are Rapid subways that cut out a lot of time it takes to get to Seoul.
PM Adventurer. He knows a lot about that area. |

I'm still undecided on the location...
I prefer a smaler town and it should be easy with so many offers but I want to find a place that's right for me... |

the size of the town/city?
I know the population but I'm thinking in terms of getting around...
my hagwan is apparently near the Cheosan-Asan Station - is that on the
outskirts of town ?
Anyway, if you are there or have been there, Id love to hear from you.
Thanks |

It is my GF's hometown. I go there once a month to visit her mother. The city itself is butt ugly. The people are only slightly more affluent than the countryside.
Yes you are on the number 1 subways line but that means nothing. A ride to seoul is longer than an hour (perhaps closer to 2). You wouldn't be able to have a night out in Seoul without killing yourself in the morning on the Subway line for 2 hours going home. A taxi is out of the question.
Small town Korea, IMO, is not cool. Most cities in Korea are not beautiful and Seoul is really the only place that has a hint of diversity. |

| I live in Cheonan and I think the place is ok. It sure beats the Pohang area where I had my last gig. Anyway, theres a metro and a bullet train to Seoul. The downtown has lots of restaurants and there's lots to do around the area, parks, etc... Of course the nightlfe is pretty much geared to the Koreans but honestly, if thats your thing then just go to Seoul on the weekends. The area appears to be clean and is pretty well taken care of. No biggie. |

I live about halfway between Cheonan and Seoul proper, and it sucks down here. At least you're fortunate enough to live near a KTX station. If you have offers in Seoul, you'd probably be happier there. Otherwise, you might want to learn where reasonably priced hotels are so you won't be dashing to make the last trains out. |

I like smaller towns and not keen on Seoul to live in...I like visiting there but noty really after the nightlife.
Is it as big as Ulsan?
Obviously bigger than Pohang.
Is it easy to get aroundin town - buses - cabs.
Seems quite social with foreigners there.
I can't decide whether to go there or not. |

Ulsan has about a million people (at least it did in 97) while Cheonan has between 600,000 and 650,000 people. I've been here a couple of months. It's ok. I lived in Seoul for a year and it wasn't my thing. Too busy, dirty, crowded it just wasn't my cup of tea. I haven't run into a lot of foreigners and whenever I ask about the night life I get the pool night answer. If you want to party it up lots and always be around other ESL teachers Cheonan may not be the best place for you. But if you're not into the massive city thing I'd say Cheonan is good.
I also loved Cheong Ju, about the same size as Cheonan but a much better night life. |

Love the selfpic avatar Squeaky B...
And for the record, SB thought it was dirty and crowded because he only went to sindang, itaewon, haebangchon and myeong-dong...

| It kind of looks like me doesn't it? And I went to a few more places than that. Not many but a few more. I just like the smaller cities here more. And you loved Cheong Ju just as much as I did. |
