Hey, I had a similar concern. I apologize if this seems like hijacking, but I think it might be good to have similar feedback in the same thread. I was wondering if it's easy to get a job after the summer camp is over. I have just been offered a summer job, but it's only 8 weeks. That's not a big deal for me, and I kinda like it. However, I want to stay in Korea much longer.

For people like me, should we forget the higher pay and just sign up with a regular hagwon or public school job for a year?

I did one last summer and one this past winter. The summer one was horrible. It only paid 2.8mil for 4 weeks. It was Monday-Saturday and the hours were 9-5. We had to eat lunch with the students everyday. I found it to be hard as the TAs didn't do that much to help and there were a lot of actual teaching hours each day rather than fun time with the kids. I don't know the company that ran it, but they did like 5+ well known university camps.

The one I did this winter was put on by SLI, it was much better. It was 7 days a week, but you only taught for 3 hours. The rest of the day was fun activities. On Monday and Sunday the schedule was pretty light and the pay was 1mil a week.

Do your research on what type of camp it is and what they expect you to do throughout the day. Those camps that demand 7hrs of teaching time are a rip off for what they pay...7hrs x 6 days...you get the picture.

summer camps suck dick, though i suppose they are a good experience so if your having no luck with recruiters then it might be a good idea to go for one. Even if it sucks you would only be there for a short time. You may find you hate korea and want to leave after 8 weeks. If you are here and settled then it would be easy to find work starting after a summer camp, probably a good idea.

I've been told that mine will run on July 20th/21st obviously staying over for one night. Not sure where it'll be held as yet, but they usually cart them off somewhere else apparently.

My handler's been asking me if I know anyone who can do it with me as it requires two FTs apparently. I'm located between Deagu and Masan if anyone's interested although I don't know what kind of coin they're offering as yet, but could maybe find out.

One important thing to discuss is the housing situation for stay-away camps and any extra rules you may be required to follow. Many people have gone to a camp arranged by their public school, only to find out that they had a curfew, chains on the doors at night, forbidden to leave the campus and a no-alcohol policy. Needless to say, shit hit the fan.

I'd suggest you do one in or around Seoul.

I've heard some nightmare stories of the ones in the boonies and how there is nothing to do for 4 weeks...

Did one in Seoul at a uni last year, kids not uni S's, they used the uni as a venue.

3.1 mil for mon - sat 9am - 6pm. I think six 50 min classes a day plus hr morn and eve before / after classes for prep. 4 weeks long.

Was tough to be honest, as mid july / aug and the weather was draining.

But the cash injection was well worth it and there was a GREAT camarade between the FT's (around 12 of us) whic really made it worth while and we had free meals and the kids were pretty cool too.

Cleared around 3 mil for month's work, don't regret it at all. I was already here and starting a new full time job as soon as it finished so no costs such as flights etc. Wouldn't have done it if not already in country I guess....

They also let us use the uni gym for free too, so bonus!

In my city we get 30k (35K with a superlative review) per hr. 30 hours per week. Camp is usually 2 weeks, but thats + 2 million on top of regualr pay. Home by 4. Not bad at all, and the kids are a kick with such small class sizes (usually 8-10).
