I'm sure people in Manchester don't call their police 'popo,'and I don't either, but I liked the sound of the headline.
Is 'Manker' an accepted term for Mancunians? Anyway:see Glasgow Rangers fans attack cops.

Obviously these dudes were all fired up from watching repeat screenings of 'Doomsday' and 'Braveheart,' and then severely let down when their team lost.

In a side note...I hear the Russians have the best hooligans in Europe now. I wonder who'll win the big dust ups in Moscow when Chelsea and Man U play?

I think any team whose supporters do that should be banned from internationals for years. It may just be a minority, but it is large enough. The way they swarmed that cop after he fell is disgusting.

I was around enough Czech hooligans a couple years ago. I can see this getting bad in Moscow. But as long as it's the idiots vs the idoitskies, I have no problem. It is when it involves innocents that it starts to suck.

Bascially what happened was that near 200,000 rangers fans from Scotland and Northern Ireland turned up in Manchester and got rat arsed for 2 whole days.

It was hot and the authorities didn't have the manpower to police the rangers fans in such a secluded area - when the big tv broke down in the city centre - the rangers fans knew they could run riot because of their numbers and did so. My opinion is if it would have been any English team with the same numbers they would have done the same.

Zenit fans weren't stupid enough to mix it with the rangers fans because they would have got their arses kicked - Rangers fans are a pretty fearsome bunch - even the peaceful ones!

England fans did something similar in Marseille in 1998.

I don't think the English fans next week will act up!

i was in manchester last night and because my train was cancelled, i had the misfortune to have to walk right through the centre of town to the other station.

most of the rangers fans weren't doing anything wrong, but even the normal ones have this surly, aggressive demeanour which only gets worse when 10 cans of special brew have been consumed. predictably enough after they lost, the rougher elements started fighting with the police, and throwing bottles at them. i had to take a detour because the riot police were actually blocking my way through town. everywhere i walked there was broken glass, spilt beer, and vomit underfoot.

plenty of them were still around today, drinking and wearing their rangers shirts with pride. pretty brave of them, i think.. as far as manchester is concerned, they've completely outstayed their welcome
