I finish my job at the end of June and am trying to get together a travel plan this week. I wanted to ask some more knowledgeable people in this forum if they think my plan is realistic on my budget. I'd like to fly from Seoul or Busan to Bangkok and stay there until the beginning of August (budget about $30 a day). Then take the train through Vietnam to Beijing and take the Trans-Siberian (if I can get a booking what with the Olympics) to Moscow, then take a quick train trip through Europe, stopping in Kiev, Berlin, Paris and London. Then getting a cheap flight back to Canada from London and hitchhiking or ride-sharing my way back to Toronto. My budget is $5000 USD and I'd be travelling for about 2-3 months. And I'm planning on living on a really tight budget. Does this sound realistic? Or am I going to end up broke in the middle of Mongolia? |

If you absolutely cut everything to the absolute bone, then technically I would cautiously say yes you could do it on $5000*
$700 Korea to Thailand
$900 Thailand x 30 days @ $30 per day
$200 Thailand to Vietnam overland (I presume via Cambodia et al)
$300 Vietnam to Beijing (assuming 1 week of travel here, not going via Hong Kong)
$500 Beijing to Moscow (straight shot on the train)
$400 Visas for Vietnam, Cambodia, Russia, China and possibly Mongolia.
$500 Moscow, Kiev, Berlin
$500 Paris, London
$800 London to Canada
= $4800
* On the condition that once you are down to your last $1500 = it would be time to buy a ticket home irrespective of where you were at that point. |

On second thought, I think I'll cut off the SEAsia portion and focus more on Russia and Europe. Otherwise I'll be eating plain rice and sleeping under a tarp for half my trip. Thanks for your advice! |
