I just got my sister to request a criminal clearance letter for me on my behalf but she wants to know if I should have my local police notarize the letter too. Would I be wasting money to have it notarize by the police when I'm going to have it notarize again at the American Embassy in Korea (as a substitute for an apostille)? |

If you're authenticating it with an affidavit at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, there's no need to get it notarized back in the U.S.
If you get it notarized at the local police department though, you're already 1/3-way to an apostille. If your sister has time to take it to the county clerk and then the Secretary of State's office after the police get it ready, the apostille can be had the same day.

In Massachusetts the CBC already came with a notarized stamp. All i had to do was then send the CBC document to the Secretary of the State office and for a $6 fee they added the appostile. I did it all by mail in less than 1 week.
