I seem to be having a problem getting my toilet to flush properly. When I flush it, the water rises nearly to the top, then very slowly drains back down leaving now ater in the bowl whatsoever, just some wet paper. I assumed that something was stuck in the hole, and attacked it with a straightened out coathanger, but it feels like I'm pressing against solid plastic (as opposed to something "organic" in nature). I don't have a plunger, but it doesn't seem like one would help anyway.

Any ideas?

Try a plunger. A coathanger will not go around the twist of the trap molded into the base of the toilet. They make shorter snakes for toilets but chances are a plunger will do the trick. Tilt the plunger while it's under water to get the air out of it before plunging.

You can also try some drain cleaner.

Always keep the top of your tank clear in case you have to reach in the tank and push the flapper valve down to keep the bowl from overflowing.

Toilet paper doesn't clog any more than fecal matter and maybe less.

Just break everthing into multiple flushes. Go a little. Flush. Go a little more. Flush. Wipe a little. Flush. Wipe a little more. Flush.

I would guess the toiletpaper may even help clean the walls of the siphon and drain and therefore prevent future clogging.

A couple of squirts of dishwashing liquid should unclog the toilet.

The same thing has happened to me in every place I`ve ever lived in to date in this nation. Each time, the liquid stuff that comes in a white or yellow plastic bottle for 2,5oo won or so did the trick. The most recent experience, though, saw me use a high pressure gas gun to force whatever it was into the pipe for all of the toilets for the apartment building in which I reside.

If I were a Korean, I`d vote for the candidate who promises to bring Korea`s plumbing and sewers out of the 19th century, etc.

I flush all that kimchi people give me down the toilet. Big tupperwares. Who the hell wants to eat that much kimchi?

Anyway, you have to be careful when you flush big things like that. Like big wads of toilet paper, small dogs, garbage, etc.

I found one that sorked dead donkey balls at the Lotte supermarket in my smallish city.

After you get it unclogged when you flush hold the handle down in the flush is COMPLETE. Pushing the handle down and walking away sometimes doesn't cycle enough water to push everything down to the main waste pipe.
