|
|
Hi all
Many of you attended our first fundraiser for the Daejeon dog shelter in February. That event was a great success, but the funds raised have since been spent on food and veterinary care for the shelter dogs and we find ourselves again in need of financial assistance to feed and care for the dogs while they wait to find their forever homes.
We will again be holding the event at the Rocky Mountain Tavern in Itaewon who have kindly offered their facilities to us (for directions please refer to the attached flyer, it is a couple of hundred metres walk up the hill from the Itaewon subway station, on the other side of the road to the Hamilton Hotel).
- The night starts at 8.00pm with live music from 9.15pm from The Forty Days, UR Seoul, Seth Martin, Zee and Dave Gwyther;
- 100% of the 10,000 won door fee goes to the care of the shelter dogs;
- Raffle prizes include an iPod Nano;
- We will have a number of the adoptable shelter dogs in attendance, they love meeting new people so please come say hi & give them a pat.
We would greatly appreciate your support - even if you can only attend for a short time it will help us save these dogs. Alternatively if you can't make it to the fundraiser but would like to donate to the dogs' care please contact me and we can provide the account details for our vet in Daejeon who provides the dogs' veterinary care (so you can be sure the funds are going directly to the care of the dogs). You can also donate directly if you like using the Paypal button on the home page of our website www.animalrescuekorea.org
As with the last fundraiser, I would be delighted to meet any Dave's members who are able to attend & will shout you a beer - just look for the tall skinny dark-skinned Australian with the short haircut.
When Animal Rescue Korea first started providing assistance to Mrs Jung and her shelter there were around 210 dogs living in her greenhouse (see the video in the below link from the ARK website). Since that time we estimate a further 10 additional dogs have been dumped there and approx 20 pups have been born to dogs that hadn't been spayed when they arrived. We did a headcount on the weekend and there are now 89 dogs at the shelter, which means around 150 dogs have been either adopted or fostered by kind people who have taken the time to come down to Daejeon and save a life.
We currently only have until the end of June to find homes for the remaining dogs, so if you or anyone you know is considering adopting or fostering a dog please do come down to the shelter on one of our weekly trips to Daejeon from Seoul every Saturday with our volunteers, adopters and fosterers. For additional details please contact me.
For further updates on the shelter please refer to the below thread from the Animal Rescue Korea forum - we regularly post pictures from the weekly Saturday shelter visits, dogs that have been adopted or fostered, videos from when we first visited the shelter and more recent videos.

As well, pictures of dogs that are in foster care and are available for adoption can be found in the Adoptables section of the forums here:

Anyone who would like more information about the fundraiser please contact Maggie at [email protected] or if related to the shelter or any of our adoptable dogs and cats please contact me at [email protected] or my mobile 010 8940 5233
Best
Tim

Sounds fun
Have you also considered having a drop-off box at the door for people to bring old leashes/toys/food and other 'doggie stuff' they may have lying around the house that they don't need, or even a food box for random donations... |

It's being held in Itaewon as the Rocky Mountain Tavern have been kind enough to offer their upstairs area to us at no cost and they are also one of the few places around that will allow us to bring some of the shelter dogs along. In addition, a number of the local Itaewon businesses such as Villa Sortino, the Wolfhound and 3 Alleys Pub have been extremely generous in supporting the fundraiser.
We have some really good raffle prizes on the night, including:
- an iPod Nano;
- three-course dinner for two (plus a bottle of wine) at Villa Sortino;
- a bottle of Jamiesons from the Wolfhound;
- meal / drinks voucher from 3 Alleys
Hope to see you on the night, event starts at 8.00pm music from 9.15pm |

Won't the music hurt their poor ears?
Rteacher started the thread concerning the first fund raiser. He included a bank account number where individuals could send funds. Perhaps you could post this information for those who can't attend.
And please, just don't give the dogs to anyone. One of my pet peeves, especially on this board, is irresponsible teachers who 'adopt' animals and then have to suddenly leave, advertising for new owners or puting their pets out on the street.
Please, interview potential owners and make sure the animals go into good hands. |

The first two acts are acoustic, so the dogs shouldn't mind. The bands (UR Seoul followed by The Forty Days) don't start until 11pm, by which time the dogs will have been taken home.
We do share your concerns about adopting animals to responsible owners. Almost all of the adopters and fosterers of the shelter dogs make the trip with us to Daejeon during which time we assess their living & travel situation, attitude toward pets etc and we do ask them to complete a fairly lengthy adoption form. In addition we are at pains to emphasise that we will take back (and find temporary or permanent accommodation for) a dog from any adopter or fosterer who, for unforeseen reasons, is no longer able to care for the dog - so there should be no reason for a dog to be dumped or put out on the street.
Anyone who can't attend the fundraiser but would like to donate, we would be most appreciative. You can send funds directly to our vet in Daejeon (to provide some reassurance that the funds will go directly to the dogs' care). His name is Dr Jong Man Kim from the Africa Vet Clinic in Daejeon and his account detail are:
Shinhan Bank
Account Number 58 104 273 000
Account Name Jong Man Kim
I should also emphasise that, whether you can make it to the fundraiser or not, we are always looking for more volunteers to join us on our weekly trips to the shelter. I take adopters, fosterers and volunteers to Daejeon from Seoul station every Saturday morning. We spend the day walking and bathing the dogs, fixing parts of the shelter etc (I do need some assistance with the greenhouse roof next Saturday the 24th if anyone can spare time to assist me - we are putting up more shade cloth now the weather is much warmer). We also spend a fair bit of time trying to socialise the more shy dogs so that they may ultimately be adoptable. Anyone who is interested in helping out on one of our Saturday trips can contact me at [email protected]

It was fun the last time I came to the fundraiser @ the RMT. I will definitely attend this one too. |

I'll be there - sounds good! Have see The Forty Days before, fantastic band.
Are you going to have a donation bin there for people to drop off things for the dogs? I have some old leashes, harnesses and collars that my dog has grown out of, I would be happy to give them to the shelter dogs mif you think you can use them? |
