This isn't really about singing the blues, but it is about singing. I can see the potential value of teaching adult students to sing a song. There are tens of thousands of songs and some of them would be appropriate choices for this kind of classroom activity. My question for discussion is: Is it appropriate to teach adult students to sing the Canadian national anthem? (These are not students who have immigrated to Canada, nor are they planning to.)
PS: This is the same teacher who can no longer teach another class because she lost her temper and said, "You guys suck! I think you are stupid. Get out of here!" |

I believe that coming here is not just to teach English but it's a cultural exchange. If you're confident in teaching your country's anthem and able to explain it's meaning. Why not?
I've taught my kids, Waltzing Matilda! |

I tried doing this as well but had trouble explaining the terminology.
I ended up changing the words..... (the chorus becoming: We are learning english, WE are learning english, speaking, writing, and listening as well.....)
Not sure if this is unpatriotic...... |

I can only imagine telling the students I'm going to teach them the American national anthem....or making them do the Pledge of Allegiance before each class? Or America the Beautiful...Hmm...maybe! |

maybe getting them to translate the korean national anthem into english would be a better project.
I don't think teaching the Canadian national anthem is worthwhile |

Actually that sounds like a bloody good idea. Where can you get a copy of the english translation. Any fluent korean speakers out there able to translate........
Obviously the students do the work also but you would need a correct copy for comparison purposes.... |

Why not? I taught my middle school students the Star Spangled Banner on the 4th or July. There's some good descriptive vocabulary in it, and they had a lot of fun with it. |
