There is phytoestrogen (girl hormone) in soy. Unfermented soy is where the problem is. I always tell people that soy milk is dangerous for this reason and the nutrient absorption rate is crap. Doenjang, miso, et al are fine, though.

Soy must be fermented the same way that kidney beans must be cooked to be edible.

So tofu should be good for you then?

Certainly good for the protein and calcium content.

I thought tofu was processed but not fermented and not aged the way miso/doenjang and soy sauce were. Maybe my memory's foggy. I just remember reading something on this a few years ago. On some forum somewhere someone was saying that it's stupid to assume that soy milk and tofu are great "because Asians always eat soy!" In actuality, soy intake was principally through miso or soy sauce. Ancient Chinese books on agriculture list soy as good for the soil but dangerous to consume...unless you like man boobs.

Soy milk is overly processed and has its nutrients added to it after it's made. The calcium etc that was already in it had been lost. Imagine making bleached, white flour and making a drink out of it.

The article says it's just not good for the swim team, that's all.

Neither is frequent sex, smoking, alcohol consumption, spicy foods, caffeine, hot baths and saunas, excess weight, sitting for long hours, over exertion physically and/or mentally.

(all the above lead to lowered sperm count).

I've been wondering, what is a "long hour"? Is it more than 60 minutes?

Right. Most beans are toxic. Fava beans can actually kill you if eaten raw. Why? Because beans don't want us to eat them (unlike, say, fruits).

o.O doesn't the body just make more after sex? Or is your idea of frequent sex 5 times a day?

If one considers that the Chinese must be the biggest eaters of tofu and that they seem to be doing very well as a race at producing offspring, then any mention of tofu being bad for sperm is just silly.

If you are trying to impregnate a female - scientists recommend ejaculation ONLY once every 3 days...

No this has been revised. They now say that better quality sperm is produced if you are ejaculating daily.
