I'm planning a vacation trip to India. What do you recommend I see? |

It kind of depends on what you're interested in.
I spent a few months in Andhra Pradesh, but didn't really have much such say in where I went as I was there as part of a wedding party. However . . . I REALLY enjoyed Tirupathi (the largest Hindu temple in the world) and Old City Hyderabad (amazing shopping, amazing food, 99% Muslim and awesome people watching). Go to the bangle market. I guarantee you've never seen anything like it.
Aside from that, if I were to go back, I'd probably check out the north. See the himalayas, visit a tea plantation, etc . . .
When are you going? Are you going by yourself?
Best of luck,

Hampi- This place is an overnight bus ride from Goa. This is an ancient Hindu ruins. There are some huge boulders that are strangly balanced giving the whole place a surreal Dali feel. No shortage of weed too. The Only drawback is you have to take a tuk tuk to an other town to pick up alcohol. Some pretty trippy people here. |

Darjeeling. A blissful little place up in the mountains. Cloud rivers flowing by several htousand feet below the village. Moss dripping from trees. I refugee center on the backside of town. Wonderful place.
I will pass on the advice I was given.
Choose a driver who's not too drunk.
I also liked Varanasi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Diu. |

I have only spent two months in the north and one month in the south.
I strongly recommend the jeep trip from Manali (a cool place to hang out, well Vashist is anyway) to Leh. It takes two days and you will go over a pass at 15,700 feet (5900m) and travel through some spectacular countryside.
There are a number of trekking agencies in Leh and the treks are well worth the walking. However, Leh is at 3500m and most people need a day or two to get used to the altitude before doing anything.
A rice barge cruise in the Kerala backwaters is very good, and the food by chefs out of the Fort Chochin school of cooking is fantastic.
