| how many public school teachers now have lee's new English initiative in their schools? (-->their classes are split in half, with their co-teacher teaching half and them teaching the other alone) |

| I wish they would! I wish! But no one has said anything about it. |

Yep. Since March I've had my classes split. At one PS it's all classes, so now the class size is only 8-10 for each group. Sweet.
It's even sweeter because the schools have hired part time teachers so I teach with my co-teacher and the part time teacher teaches the other group or I teach with the part timer and my co-teacher teaches the other. Works out very nicely indeed. |

| I don't think it's practical. 1 FT, 24 classes of 35+. What's it like teaching groups of of less than 30? Do students stay awake? |

No changes here, but we don't have the exta classroom to be able to do it.
Not sure how this would fly anyway, as the the contract states that we are not supposed to be alone in the class at any time. |

Nothing's changed. My classes are between 19 and 27 students strong, so there isn't a real need to split them up. That being said, I still got shown the contract amendment which mentioned this and that I "may be requesed to teach other subjects in English".
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to prep my sex-ed class.... |

| I've been teaching half the class (about 18 students) for a month now. So far I like it better. I have a much better rapport with the students and believe it or not, fewer discipline problems than I had with a co-teacher in the room. It's much more relaxed. |

I already teach alone for afterschool class and I know you do too.
We have extra classrooms, but there's just no way I'd be so lucky as to get rid of the coteacher and teach half size classes. Since my coteachers don't do anything anyway, it would literally cut my workload in half.

Last year I taught an advanced class alone in the science lab. This year, I refused to do afterschool classes (and have no advanced class). All 23 of my classes are within regular hours and (theoretically) with a co-teacher. |

WTF there's supposed to be a change? Since when? Can someone please give more details regarding this.
Though I don't mind the "old way" this new way sounds very promising. Is it an order?
Thanks! |

It is a recommendation that was sent to GEPIK schools. Schools don't have to enforce it.
It isn't practical since most schools don't have enough classrooms to pull it off. |

| No changes here or for anybody in my city for that matter. I wouldn't mind giving it a try. For those of you who have had it implemented, how is it working out? |

I'm not liking it. I'm on my own with the kids in the library with a tiny white board on wheels which moves around when I write. It feels really temporary but thats what they think will be happening long term.
It's not so much being on my own its the fact that all the f'ing about takes 10 minutes off the class and the room is SHIT...
I won't renew my contract to teach like that for 1 year... |
