So, does anyone know of any Quaker Meetings that happen in Korea? I am going to be in a remote enough area that I will likely not be able to attend on a regular basis, but I'd like to be able to go and visit a few times in the year I'll be in the country.
If you don't know yourself, advice on where I might find such information would be greatly appreciated.

Are you from Pennsylvania? I grew up with a lot of Quakers in Pa. I lived with a Quaker family for three months. They let me live in their house (a really nice house) for only 100$ a month. Really kind people. I went to some of the mettings, met a bunch of Quakers.
I honestly think you might be the only Quaker in Korea. Given the circumstances of what Quakers believe in, I don't think Koreans would accept the religion, let alone even understand the basics of it. For example - they don't like to share here very often, they can show anger, they can be quite rude. Quakers like to share, they are extremely kind to their neighbors, they are very welcoming, they don't express anger, they are peaceful. But maybe you will find a few friends here. You never know. |

Nope, I grew up in Texas, though my family is originally from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. However, I've lived in Massachusetts for the last 7 years, and became a "convinced Friend" (convert) about 4-5 years ago, after having gone to meeting with some friends, and then after attending their Quaker wedding. There was a period in which I wasn't very active, but then when I started seeing my boyfriend, who is also Quaker, it became a bigger part of my life.
I'm glad to hear that you A. know that we're real people that don't look like the guy on the oatmeal box and B. that you had a good experience. We're generally, in my experience at least, very friendly people. The $100/month rent was likely due to the concept of "fair price" that many Quakers ascribe to. Generally, it is seen as greedy to charge anything more than a "fair price" for an item. Generally the cost of the materials, plus a reasonable rate for the labor. In terms of rent, it probably worked out to simply your cost to the family (food, utilities, etc), and nothing more.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were very few Quakers in Korea, due, as you said, to the culture. However, even though there are only about 250,000 of us worldwide, I would be surprised if there isn't at least *one* meetinghouse somewhere in the country. *Edit: And, apparently, according to the poster below you, there is.

I don't consider myself a Christian, but when I feel the need to get centered, I go to Quaker meetings. Really, really good people. I don't like programmed meetings, though.
I hope this meeting works out well for you. |

Yeah, I see that happening a lot. It's a good thing, I think. Most Quakers don't really care if people convert or not (though that may be why there aren't many of us), and it's good that we're able to help people who feel like attending as non-members to attain some internal peace. Glad it works for you.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of programmed meetings either. I think it defeats the purpose. |

I knew they existed but I wasn't sure in what quantity. One of the only native Korean Quakers did a bunch of work after the Korean War and was nominated more than once for a Nobel Peace Prize. |

Fantastic! I'm a Quaker as well. I used to attend the Strawberry Creek Meeting in Berkeley, and the New Orleans Friends Meeting.
I find it very difficult to get to the meetings at Ewha since I live quite far south of the river. As far as I know the Seoul Meeting is the only one that's been organized in Korea. However if there are enough people interested in your area, you could always start your own meeting. |

Haha! I've only been going to meeting for 4-5 years. I'm *so* not qualified to start one. Plus, I'm living in the middle of nowhere. Seriously. There are 5 foreigners in a 45 minute radius of me. But, that's part of why I chose this location. 
I figure that I'll probably be going to Seoul once a month anyway, so I can just try and time it to coincide with the meeting. |

my wife goes all the time, she likes it. i'm not too sure about it, but we are different people when it comes to it
after the meeting they tend to go out to lunch (after they stuff their faces with my wife's baking)
its great time for me to look at porn online  |
