Considering that you had to stay in Asia (no running to other continents including home), where would you go?

MY heart's telling me to go to Vietnam. My wallet's telling me to go to Taiwan. Both may be wrong. I don't know how to vote.

The wife and I will go to China in 3 or 4 years time.
There's still some money to be made here in K if that's your 'prime directive', though like the TV show I lifted that from, if you chase money, anywhere can look stale real quick.
I get the feeling this is more "move for altruistic reasons" kind of stuff, and all your choices seem attractive if you're going there for the right reasons.

It was a brief trip to Vietnam that set me to contemplating just such a move. Cambodia seems to afford possibilities too.

I'm thinking of taking the grand tour next year & seeing what serendipity has to say.

Update: After all my posturing recently about moving to Japan, I'm now actually seriously considering coming back to Korea. However, if I come back I'll be studying Korean for a while and taking a break from teaching. So, if I can take your question literally "if teaching" the answer is still Japan. For me SE Asia is for travel now and semi-retirement later.

Heart says: I'm a super tired of this profession and would like some time off to do something a bit more mindless back home, so I can devote more to the six-headed "free time" devourer that is my website.

Mind says: Money is tight and airfare home is super expensive. Keep trying to land a gig in Japan so I can get that damned debt paid off. Then, if I dont like Japan, come back to the land of the free rent and dont stop until Mr. Loan is paid off.

Mind and Heart are in a constant battle right now.

Thinking about somewhere in SEAsia or might remain here. I've got a few possible scenarios that I'm considering but still have a while to decide.

If working....China or Korea.
If travelling probably Western China (Tibet and Xinjiang), Pakistan and Iran...with some side trips to Thailand and the Philippines.
If relaxing, Nepal, Indo or Malaysia.
Sorry that's not exactly a succinct answer - it's just about everywhere.... Embarassed

I can't even answer my own poll.. its kind of a toss-up between Japan and Vietnam.. but strangly I do like and have great times in Korea so hard to give that up too easily as well.

I already left Korea, I'm in China, so I answered China, but in fact, I'll be back in Korea at the end of this contract (well... I don't know the future).

Where in China? And is there a particular motivation to return to Korea? Just curious..
