I have a visa issuance number!

It is fairly safe to say that what I did worked. Here is what I sent to Korea.

1. Original degree certificate

2. Copy of degree transcript in sealed University envelope
-available from most universities for 10 and takes 10 working days. Can be ordered over the phone.

3. Subject Access Form with FCO stamp
-has to be applied for from your regional police force, requirements vary but most commonly they need two copies of ID and 10 fee. Will take up to 40 days.
-has to be obtained from the Foreign Office in London. Will take 40 days by post or same day if you take it. Fee is 27

4. Photocopy of Passport picture page

5. Four passport photographs

6. Copy of your CV

7. Signed copy of contract

8. Health form
- available from Korean Immigration, your school or recruiter should be able to send you a copy. It is just a few yes/no questions for you to answer and sign.

If anyone else has obtained a visa issuance number and did something different to me please post what you did.
Please only post information on this thread if it has been tried as I am trying to put together the actual process to help people in future.
When (or if) I manage to get an E-2 visa and Alien Registration Card I will post those details too.

It would also be helpful to know if anyone has been granted an E-2 visa using a Basic Disclosure instead of a Subject Access Check.

Good suggestion!

That and anything else you sent instead of what I sent would be helpful.

Thank you Christina for the information.

I am currently waiting for my visa issuance number. All my documents have been with Korean Immigration for 1 week now so I hope I will get my number back within a few days.

I sent one additional piece of information not on yours list:

A degree verification form as my university degree was not a Masters course. The information I put on the form will be "checked" by the KCUE (Korean Council for University Education).

I got the above form from my recruiter.

Also, I sent both parts of my Subject Access with apostilles on both.

And perhaps insignificantly I only sent 2 passport photos.

Thanks Savant,

With regards to the degree verification my degree is only a BSc, but still your info is very helpful if it will save someone 10 and it is one less thing to wait for.

Same goes for the passport photos - I hate getting passport photos done

If I had received two subject access checks I would have had both stamped too. At least now we know that you only need the National check to send. Another saving of 27.

Please confirm on this thread if you get your visa issuance number and how long it has taken.
Mine took eight working days, my friend's took five working days - at least we will be able to give a general time scale. The Immigration offices are very busy these days...

I got an E-2 visa number using a Standard Disclousre (Australian version of BC) instead of a Full Disclosure.

Kickittome,

Thanks for your info, can you please clarify:

Are you Australian? If you are from/in the UK and got different kind of Police Check please give all details.
Also what took three days the police check or your visa issuance number?

Sorry if this seems picky, but I am just trying to create a thread that will get remove any confusions for people applying for an E-2 visa under the new regulations.

The visa issuance number took three days.

I am Australian and I got a standard disclosure from the Australian Federal Police. Immigration accepteed this so I assume they would accept the British equivalent.

hi there,

I applied through my local police force(10) who sent off for a PNC Police National Computer check.
I got the PNC letter back and had it signed by a solicitor who forwarded it onto the foreign office for an apostile. (total cost 75)
I sent this to Korea along with:
copy of degree cert
accompanying verification from the British Council authenticating my degree cert
sealed, stamped and dated transcripts.
2 passport photos
(medical check had been done in Korea last year) this was sent also.
I have been working through a colleague at the school where I was last year and where I am going back to.

I have my visa issuance number last week and have my passport being processed at the Korean Embassy right now ( 5 working days)

The criminal check from the national computer took about 35 days.
The stamp from the foreign office took about a week/10 days.

EMKAYES - Thanks for posting, it is getting interesting...

Was your PNC a blue form with two blue bands? I suspect that it is the same as the Subject Access Form..

Also what is the process for getting the British Council to verify your degree?

What are you submitting to the embassy in London?

Photocopy of Degree?
Photocopy of Police check?

still unclear whether copies of degrees need to be official copies from uni or photocopies suffice.

Do you know if you'll be getting your police check back or if imm... keeps it?

Glad someones gone through this and posted.
tbh, the process hasn't changed much just the SA or BD CRC confusion and notary + apostille confusion.

And of course the required docs @ the embassy in London.

cheers

I have sent only plain old black and white photocopies to London.

I only sent them today so I won't be posting the London Embassy part until I get a visa.

I think Immigration should give us our police checks back but you never know.....

yeh, the PNC was a blue A4 paper. I was in Korea when I got my uni cert verified by the British Council. It cost about 25. I faxed them a copy of my degree and they gave me 5 letters in English and Korean stating my uni was a bona-fide uni etc. very handy.

I must say that the Foreign Office would not apostile a copy of my crinimal check - they wanted the real thing. Subsequently I had to send my original criminal check to Korea - which I wasnt happy about cos if it got lost I would be 40 days + late for the start of my job.
I just hope I get it back!

Does this mean if you go to the Foreign Office in London you can get it on the same day? Got confused by this
