I am teaching three after school classes. One is grade 1 to 2, another is 3 to 4 and the last one is 5 to 6. The school wants me to buy a textbook for each class. Unfortunately I cannot use online resources. They have to be textbooks. Can anyone suggest some? Thanks.

What level are they? Are they matched by just grade or actual comprehension level? If its the former, you could be in trouble unless you are their only exposure to English outide of public school.
At my Hagron I have 2nd and 3rd graders in my intermediate class who are much higher than a lot of 6th graders who are in the beginner class. They can read abridged novels but the 6th graders can't put a sentence together so make sure your kids are matched up correctly. Easier said than done.
For elementary, the most popular books I have across are the All Aboard series (12 units), Beeline series (16 units), Happy House series (8 units) and English Time series (12 units), in that order. I didn't care much for Backpack, Smile or Hip Hip Hooray. |

I'm quite familiar with the New Parade, Let's Go, and English Time series. I've enjoyed using these with my after school classes as they are quite fun, have audio CD's to use - along with some catchy songs - and are easy to modify to your own style.
The bonus also is that they all come with Teacher Manuals - which basically outline all lessons - which is really helpful when your mind goes blank.
Goodluck! |
