I'm thinking about getting my own place in Seoul. Anyone have any idea how much the going rate for apartments is these days? I've already dismissed the idea of living in Gangnam as it will be astronomical.
I'm just fishing for info so I can start thinking about the move.
Thanks |

It really depends on how much you can put down as a deposit. I only had 2 million Won, so I pay 850,000 a month for a three room apartment near Itaewon. It's fully furnished.
However, if you can put down 5 million - or even better 10 million key money - you could get a one or two room place for probabley around 500,000 a month. |

I had an apt in Itaewon for 1 mil won key money and 300,000 a month rent. It was a bit old and slightly dingy, but I made it as nice as I could and it was ok. I had to buy my own bed and washing machine and fridge, but found good condition 2nd hand stuff at one of the 2nd hand furniture places around Noksapyeong station area for next to nothing.
A friend has a 2 bedroom apt in Haebangchan (5 min walk from Itaewon) with a large kitchen bathroom and dining space etc and pays 400,000 a month. He said he put down 5 million key money. Pretty nice apt, but noisy area imo.
Check out some of the estate agents in Itaewan and also in the classifieds at places like seoulscene.com and those mags you can pick up in gekko's like 'groove' and 'eloquence' too. |

I can put down 10 mill as a deposit and I can pay 500k per month rent. I've heard Itaewon is a bit dodgy and there are lots of burglaries. Is there an area around there that's particularly bad? |

Thats the same amount I was given by my school. 10/key money and 500,000 monthly rent. I want to live near Itaweon. I gave a list to my recruiter of the places that I wanted to live that were mentioned on this board and he said No , Sinchon is where the lady killers live (aka male ESL teachers). I thought that was funny. Itaewon I heard is not that bad. I posted a question awhile back about a female living here and I got some PM's stating that people on this board hate this place but it really is a good place to live. To each ther own. |

330,000 (rent and maintenance charge), NO KEY MONEY (10 million to Koreans, waived for foreigners ), 1 room, 10-15 minutes walk from Gangnam.
**Pay 6 months rent in advance**
I live in the semi-basement. Rooms on higher floors are a little more.
I am moving out this summer. |

OP, with 10 million key money, you should have no problem finding a place for 500,000 won a month. The biggest problem is getting landlord that will sign with a foreigner. Itaewon/Haebongchon is easier for this. Personally, I found my own place and got my school to sign the lease. Many people don't trust whitey. |
