hi..
i used to live in korea and couldn't figure out where to put this post, so here it is:
i will be coming to shanghai for 3 months later on this year as an exchange student, and i'd like to get some idea of how much it costs to live there. i've no intention of hanging around with ex-pat bankers and living it up at the hilton, and just want a normal life with a bit of boozing and clubbing thrown in. for those of you who lived in shanghai, can you give me some idea of how much you spent each month please?
thanks! |

booze costs a little more, food costs a little less.
Accommodation comes in a much wider price range, the high end is about the same, not sure about anything cheaper.
Chopsticks are made out of wood instead of metal.

thanks gents.. nice blog by the way mate.
google searches tend to throw up lots of articles by consulting firms which show how expensive serviced apartments are, but i'm going to be pretty much living like a peasant, owing to my student status. student dorms, cheap food, and if anything is left over, a few nights on the sauce..
anyone else with anything to add?
cheers |

Is there also a forum called ThatsShanghai! or something like that?
Although, personally I find Daves Korean Forum fairly informative, particularly for those of with a past Korean history. |

Theres a happening vibe to Shanghai, but its easily ruined by the brash rudeness of the people. That and the billion different ways they try to extort money from the foreigner.
The awakening dragon is an aggressive beast.
