I've been in Korea before on an E-2 but this time I'm heading over on an E-7. I got my visa issuance number from my school, no problem, and I went down to the embassy to get my visa stamp.
They told me that I had to provide them with a copy of my contract and a letter of invitation before they could give me the stamp.
Isn't my school supposed to front that to Kimmi in Korea? Why should the embassy need those documents when the visa has already been approved? |

because they do.
Pretty well all visa issuances seem to need the complete works in terms of documentation.
Its just a piece of paper from your school and a copy of your contract. Shouldn't be hard to organise at all,

I just got my E7 and didn't have to submit those documents. They were submitted by my employer in Korea. I only submitted the Visa number, passport, application and fee. -- actually, I sent along sealed transcripts as well. |

Yeah, I figured I'd have to do what you did. After my first embassy visit, I checked with my employer, an international school, to be sure that I hadn't just made a mistake. They said that none of the other teachers they've hired (they're hiring about 30 of us at once, although I think I'm the only Canadian in the bunch) has been asked to do this and that it shouldn't be necessary.
So I went back down to the embassy today to tell them what my employer said, but they were firm. I still need to bring the contract and the letter of invitation.
I wrote back to my employer to ask me to front those documents. It's not a big deal, I guess, but I'm still puzzled as to why I seem to be the ONLY person for whom this is required. I get the sense that this particular embassy doesn't get many requests for E-7s, but still. |
