Question for you. What do you all typically talk about while hanging around downtown, especialy if you go out with co-workers? Is it much different than what Korean teachers talk about? Feel a generation gap between older/younger?

Just asking because some folks can put a damper on things with all the constant talk about bleak economics, rotten politics, and Korea bashing. Not just general current events of the day, but two hours of serious life and death crap that snuffs the life out of a party.

We try redirecting the topic to more universal topics like food, movies, music, sports, etc. so that we can all get along (regardless of nationality). Then, within a few minutes, it's back to negatives such as evil boss, evil taxi drivers, high cost of living, not enough sun shine coming into the apt, layoffs back home, evil candidate elected, hanging chads, NCLB failures, evil USFK, etc.

Not had the economy-is-terrible-oh-my-god chats yet. Normally just.. normal chats. Like you'd have in a small bar in Iowa or S. Dakota or Oregon. Actually those places have a lot more crazies than Korea does so it's perhaps an unfair comparison. I'll say LESS crazy chats than you'd have in Iowa or S. Dakota or Oregon.

Anyway the economy is an interesting topic and I'd LIKE to end up in a bar talking with people who had a clue, but I suspect I'd end p talking to Ron Paul fanboys or communists.

And now you're trying to be cool by commenting on me. I'm no Ron Paul. People stopped talking about me *6* years ago not 2. I'd like to calculate how sad that makes you but I'm one of those idiots who majored in an Arts subject so I can't do complex math equations which measure how dumb you are. My apologies. Rock on.

rac,
Have you ever considered actually contributing something to a thread rather than just being a troll? Trolling takes a certain flare and you have not demonstrated that you have it. You just sound like a moody teenager.

Change-ee friends.

Living in a foreign country can be a fun experience, but it can be severely ruined by hanging around negative people. We're all a bit more vulnerable to others' opinions in a foreign country than at home, no matter how long we've been away, so I think it's important to choose your friends carefully.

Personally, if I hang out with people who do nothing but bitch about Korea, I stop hanging out with them.

When I lived in Korea I found the conversations were good but would drift off inevitably to people moaning about Korea. I tried not to talk about politics (cos youre not supposed to in a pub anyway, rule one) but if politics came up Id generally end up feeling depressed cos I was talking to a yank. You just cant talk about politics with Americans. Just joking.

Anyway, I ended up glad of the anonymity cos people would moan so much about Korea. Especially the ones who had been there for a few years. Go home you loser!
