So, I'm teaching one of my younger students today when he decides to spit in my face. I was in total rage! I had to hold back because I was going to put him in the hospital. I have never had such disrespect.

Well...what did I do? I returned the same gesture to the kid and then I walked out of the classroom and went off on the boss. (I had to take it out on someone.) Washed my face with soap and the kid spent the next 40 minutes in the corner with his hands up.

I can take the babos and the constant dongs....but this time it went to far. I really don't know what to do with these boys sometimes.

CHILD BEATER! Evil or Very Mad Mad Wink Razz

I had a kid whack my hand the other day with one of those huge Keom-do kung fu sticks. Whack! Hurt like hell. The other Korean teacher chuckled at how cute he was. Nobody did a thing and little peewee ran off to the bus.

haha they need an avatar with a guy with tears running down his eyes to express my laughing.

Why do you put up with any of that crap? I think the last kid who tried to dong chim me was rubbing his fingers the whole class as I squeezed them rather hard...he got the idea.

As much as I HATE Oprah, the chick has sound advice:

Only YOU can let people take advantage of you.

What can I do? If I hit a kid really hard what happens? Not that I really want to do that, but what are the options?

They cry. Pretty much that's it. I didn't say you have to beat the kids...but sometimes giving back when they give shuts em up.

By that do you mean you spat on the kid? Probably not the wisest of moves...

Not the wisest of moves? What do you mean?

I was pissed and I didn't want to hit him. The kids lucky that I didn't do anything else. He knew better.

...are you trying to tell me that you would have just sat there?

Did I say "I would just have sat there"?
If not, then don't attribute it to me.

There are other disciplinary measures that you could have taken that wouldn't have involved retaliating in a disgusting manner.

I think that's a pretty good solution. Maybe make him hold his books or a chair over his head (depending on how big the kid is), and then have the whole class start playing that kid's favorite game while he's in the corner.

I'd also consider not letting him back into my class without an apology letter from the kid signed by the kid's parents.

CS, you have my sympathies. Good on you for resisting the urge to hit the kid.

We're saying we wouldn't spit on a child. Other avenues of discipline were open.

How about the good old fashion ear twist, coupled by a slow march(ear still in hand) around the class with a stern lecture for hime and the entire class?

Yeah....okay I'm getting a lot of crap for spitting back. I really don't give a rip though. You can't talk unless something similar has happened to you and you were able to control your initial response.
