i got mine through the agency next to STA Travel in Seoul. I forgot the name (STA will tell you if you go to visit them) but they specialize primarily with visas...... i think they`re the floor below
Don`t waste your time going to the Chinese embassy |

You can also go directly to the Chinese embassy and they will do it for you.
If you're not in a hurry, and you don't mind trusting a travel agent with you passport, most agents will arrage it for you, for a fee. |

My advice is to head up the hill to the embassy at around 9am and get one of the travel agents to do it.
I was up at the MyeongDong Chinese emabssy the other day to get a visa for my friend. We got turned away and told that you can only go through a travel agent. On the hill leading up to the embassy most of the businesses are travel agents for that purpose.
The agents can only do it for a fee around 20000 won more than the cost of the visa so there is no chance of getting ripped off.
You can get a 1 or 2 day express service for a little extra (total cost around &70000) or slightly cheaper for the 3 day service.
Make sure you have your passport, photo, confirmation of flights and accom. bookings. Payment is made when the passport is picked up.
Multi entry visas aren't done these days either as things tighten up for the olympics. |

Not anymore. They changed the rules and you can only get it through a travel agent now. |

Is this true in other countries as well, or only Korea? Chuseok being so early this year, I may have to get a visa for China in the US. |

From what I read on this thread, my advice would be: If you can get one through a travel agent in Seoul for 70,000won, go for it.....
Ever since last month, trying to get a Chinese tourist visa is almost impossible because of the tighter security measures in place to insure a "peaceful and prosperous Olympic games"......but it has alot to do with all those protests during the global torch relay.....
The Chinese consulate in NYC has stopped issuing tourist visas from now to October except for those with exceptional reasons to go to China, such as to volunteer to help people in the quake areas and even then you need an invitation letter.......
If you don't beleive it, go over to the China Off-Topic area and read about it or even try to call one of the consulates in the US.............it just truly sucks ass................ |

Does that depend on where you are going? I wanted to go up near the Vladivodstok. |

make sure you have the following
passport (obviously)
alien registration card
airplaine tickets (actual ones are better than e-tockets as this can cause them great confusion)
hotel confirmation for all dates of your trip. (this must clearly state your name, if there is more than one person in the hotel, then save the boooking confirmation to microsoft word and add the names of the other passengers...because most hotels only provide the name of the persn booking it)
passport photos
make sure there is no spelling differences in any of the documentation that has your name on it as they will not accept it.]
after you have all these correct it should be easy to get it sorted |

It is for all types of leisurely travel through the middle kingdom during the period of the Olympics..........
The hotel and flight reservations are needed to get a 30-day~single-entry tourist visa (L-visa).....but they are refusing to issue double-entry~6-month tourist visas for the entire period of the olympics................ |

if you're booking your trip through a travel agent, they'll generally be able to get it for you for the price of the visa plus 5,000 won. |
