I am meeting a recruiter tomorrow and am wondering since I am looking for work in February or March, would it be too soon to tell my recruiter what kinds of things, in terms of living conditions, I am currently looking for? I know of a person who actually had it written into her contract that the school would buy for her apartment a microwave, a VCR, and a TV. What I really would like above all else is single housing, and for the school to pay for my utilities. Actually, there's more I would like to say to her about the kind of job that I would like and the kind of living arrangements I would like to have, but I don't want to go overboard, even though a part of me feels I should as asking for it now might mean not complaining about not having it later.
Should I keep this meeting on the Hi, nice to meet you level, or should I bring out my list of wants and needs now? |

No call to be shy to a recruiter about what you want. You sure dont owe them any deference -- the more forthright the better.
Your requests are well within industry standards. Every contract I've signed stipulated microwave, tv, vcr, & much else. (My boss gave me w360000 today to buy a new microwave & vacuum cleaner even though the old ones still function.) Single housing -- nothing less. But utilities included is a tall order, I've never seen that. A small price in light of free rent.
I'm surprised at your inquiry -- youve been posting here a while? Any decent employer is going to supply single housing & all the basic household appliances. If youre here now go look at the housing offered & approve it or not firsthand.
Why are you going through a recruiter? |

Sure, I've been posting awhile here. Just examining all my options, that is why I am using a recruiter, as well as looking for work on my own.
I am making a point about single housing as I remember last year (when I was young and green) I used a recruiter, was told I'd have one roommate, only to be stuck with the roommate from hell. I didn't really know what to do at the time. Just don't want to go down the same road again.
And lots of my friends here seem to have roommates, like two or three. Having seen the freakiest waygook thread, having had he roommate from hell...I will take a quote from Greta Garbo and tell anyone who asks that my housing preference is "I vant to be alone."
When I start getting people interested in me, you can be sure, as I am here now, that I will be looking at the housing to make sure it's nice.
About the furnishings, I was just making a point about a request I had heard about...I know that most often the apartments are fully furnished...not just bed and desk but also with a TV and even a rice cooker, but sometimes they aren't. I was just wondering if for some weid reason it'd seem too soon to ask for things, as my next job won't start till March.
Anyways, thanks. |
