After reading a myriad of posts about shady schools and crooked recruiters, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable school where I can work or a reputable recruiter who can place me in a teaching position. Ideally, I would like to teach in Seoul. Nevertheless, I would be willing to consider schools in other parts of South Korea as long as the owners play it straight with their teachers when it comes to contracts, money, housing, etc.

YOu might start with the FAQs (frequently asked questions) and then cruise through the contract sticky thread in the jobs forum so you will at least have some idea what you are talking about when you start talking to people over here (schools and recruiters).

It might also be in your best interest to cruise through the labor standards act sticky thread (newest stuff and new laws in the last few posts of that thread). Then you will know when you are getting screwed and what is just different from home.

.

I'm no newbie...
I've been here for at least 3 months.

my recruiter, Claire, worked for NetKorea (now named Woonjin Think, or something) was very good with getting my needs taken care of w/ public school job. I was able to pick my city in Kangwondo, but you have to be specific. Many times the recruiters hire you only for the province and they decide where to put you.

also, hagwons (private afterschool academies) generally pay more to recruiters for getting them a teachers so be weary of someone who is only offering hagwon jobs. there are plenty of public school jobs here in korea available.

make sure you get the name of the school/hagwon before you commit and talk w/ the current teacher and/or former teacher(s) if possible. If all else fails, post on Dave's and I'm sure plenty of people will be able to offer some opinion of that school.
