McCain has had up to 118 lobbyists on his campaign. And he says he's the enemy of "special interests"? I guess he's only the enemy of "special interests" like the civil rights movement, government responsibility, international intelligence, women's rights, and morals.

At any rate, being a lobbyist isn't necessarily a bad thing. Nor is being friends with lobbyists. However, lobbyists do tend to defend the worst of the worst.

Let's see who's been running his campaign, courtesy of McCainSource .

The big 3 were Charlie Black, Tom Loeffler, and Peter Madigan. These guys, especially Black, worked for the some of the worst countries and dictators around. But they're not the only ones feeding at the foreign trough.

Rick Davis had an Argentinian politician make anti-semitic remarks,
which shouldn't be a surprise since McCain also has Nixon's "Jew counter" on his staff raising money.
Frank Donatelli lobbied on behalf of Ethiopia, which has been implicated in various human rights abuses in Somalia.
Kirsten Chadwick lobbied for the Korea-US FTA. Not a bad thing, but she also lobbied for Bahrain which has serious problems with women's rights and abuses.
Vicki Hart was paid to essentially spy for Mexico on the issue of how the US government officials viewed Mexican law enforcement.

And now, the corporations themselves.
Lots of big names here. Some are fairly benign, some are not. I also notice some countries that probably shouldn't have lobbyists, like Kurdistan (Burgeson).
There's a lot of telecoms on here. Gee...what's McCain's position on warrentless wiretapping and telecom immunity?
Oh wait, he's for their immunity. Gee...I wonder why...

So come with me, if you have time, on a trip thru McCain's baggage.

McCain had to shed some of his baggage today.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/22/mccain-rejects-hagee-endo_n_103143.html

Out goes Pastor Parsley, the guy who went off his rocker about Islam, and Rev. Hagee, a man who's said that God dammed America (for gay people) but McCain thought it was OK. Until today, when the stuff he said about the Jews came out. Basically, he said that God sent Hitler to force the Jews to go to Israel.
Quote:
John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God's behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine. According to the Reverend, Adolph Hitler was a "hunter," sent by God, who was tasked with expediting God's will of having the Jews re-establish a state of Israel.

Going in and out of biblical verse, Hagee preached: "'And they the hunters should hunt them,' that will be the Jews. 'From every mountain and from every hill and from out of the holes of the rocks.' If that doesn't describe what Hitler did in the holocaust you can't see that."

He goes on: "Theodore Hertzel is the father of Zionism. He was a Jew who at the turn of the 19th century said, this land is our land, God wants us to live there. So he went to the Jews of Europe and said 'I want you to come and join me in the land of Israel.' So few went that Hertzel went into depression. Those who came founded Israel; those who did not went through the hell of the holocaust.

"Then god sent a hunter. A hunter is someone with a gun and he forces you. Hitler was a hunter. And the Bible says -- Jeremiah writing -- 'They shall hunt them from every mountain and from every hill and from the holes of the rocks,' meaning there's no place to hide. And that might be offensive to some people but don't let your heart be offended. I didn't write it, Jeremiah wrote it. It was the truth and it is the truth. How did it happen? Because God allowed it to happen. Why did it happen? Because God said my top priority for the Jewish people is to get them to come back to the land of Israel."

He got rid of these 2, plus 5 lobbyists. Will Charlie Black have to go next? The news and blogosphere are raising a stink over him.
