What's the best way to travel for a few months with cash?

Once I leave Korea I'll be travelling around various countries in South Asia but I dont want to have to transfer my money to Canada in order to use my debit card the whole way through (unless that is the ONLY option since I hear that it's harder to transfer more than $1000 a time).

I feel that hard cash is totally unsafe but travellers checks I hear are a hassle in this part of the world.

So what is the most economical solution?

basically you'll just have to take the travelers' checks to a bank to cash them and have ID on you etc. - a passport will suffice.

I've found a combo of travelers' chks, cc and cash are the best bet.

I even keep several coin purses to avoid mixing up the various currencies.

Take a bunch of Benjamin Franklins (US $100 bills) and a money belt that you were around your waist. Wear it 24/7 if you can (except when you shower of course).
I've heard of a good idea to keep a debit card in a different place from your cash (in your bag maybe). That way if cash is stolen you have the debit card, and if someone takes the debit card you call and cancel it immediately.
Indonesia usually takes only mint condition $100 bills and many countries won't change a bill starting with CB series. I guess those are the bill our friends above the DMZ are making.

$100 bills are way too big for most places in SE asia to change (except banks)! bring a wad of small bills: 20s, 10s, 5s, and lots of 1s. i like to divide up my money so that most of it is in my money pouch, and enough for the day is in my pocket or my wallet. if you flash a huge wad of 100s everytime you buy something, you're just asking to get mugged!
