|
|
i was leaving my school today and a guy was driving past (and then up and down all the side streets) pumping out huge plumes of thick, acrid smoke from a device on the back of his motorbike. the smoke took about 10 minutes to disperse properly. It smelt very toxic and chemically so i was astonished to see all the kids running about and playing in the smoke after he'd left, with all the parents and bus drivers watching!!
anybody got any ideas what this is all about?? fumigating the neighbourhood maybe?
seems strange that its OK to let your kids play in toxic, waste fumes but they're terrified of a 1 in a million chance of getting CJD from a mad cow - but hey, thats just the Korea we all know and love. |

The kids are chasing a mosquito fogger.
At least it's exercise. |

I had a co-worker once who tried to convince me that those fumes are safe... because the kids play in them. Obviously they wouldn't play in them if they weren't. |

It's tiny wee crystals of 'sparkle', which the kids absorb, thus ensuring that as they grow and turn into fine adjumas and ajosshis Korea will be forever sparkling. |

It is actually a vegetable extract from Chrysanthemums.
Totally harmless, unless your a mosquito. |

Korean kids also like to blow glue bubbles.
No need to worry about any of this stuff, kimchi cures all. |

I believe it is malathion to kill the mosquitos but I'm not sure. Last time I was in Indonesia I read an article about spraying for pests and it pointed out that deisle makes alot of smoke but does little good. With all the smoke that stuff makes I wouldn't be suprised if it WAS deisle. In any event, deisle or malathion cannot be the healthy to breathe.
When Koreans say the stuff is safe I like to point out that they said the same thing about DDT. |
