Hery guys, just another newbie (Korean-)American teaching English here in Seoul - and the questions, if it wasn't obvious from the title, are there any places around that sell good ol' fashioned Gyros around? That's the only thing that I miss from the States . . ..

Just curious as to why would you want gyros...?

I'm sure you can find gyroscopes in Korea...this is a pretty hi-tech country after all...if you want some older gyros, you should try some of the markets around Chongno, Sindang, or Dongdaemun...all kinds of second-hand gizmos there...

If you want new ones, you'll probably have to check industrial hardware shops, or engineering firms...

Good Luck!

Very Happy You are so funny guys! But actually I wouldn't mind an answer to that question, on the other hand I haven't had anything to eat yet today and my thoughts are all over Greek gyros, with a generous helping of tsatsiki and salad and... drool...

If you go to itaewon station, up the alley by the KFC and to the left, there's a greek place. or there was. places are always closing down. you might want to check out all the kebab places in itaewon. they're a good alternative.

There is a Greek joint right across Ewha Womans Univ.'s main gate and another one in the playground near Hongik Univ.

Don't go to Santorini's in Itaewon, it's overpriced.

Oh yeah, and there is another gyro joint in Hongdae, more towards the subway station side called Sandi & Drak.

While visiting Namdaemun a month ago, I saw this middle eastern guy hanging out on one of the side streets. Then I realized that he was next to a vertical rotisserie that I've only ever seen in Greek restaurants, presumably cooking beef or lamb. That was one of the strangest sights I had seen in Korea. Among all these Koreans walking by, there was guy trying to sell gyros on the street (since his "store" looked to be about the size of a closet - it couldn't it any customers or even the rotisserie).

The famous Kebab man in Itaewon (behind Quiznos/old Burger King in the alley) has great chicken kebabs and lamb kebabs. It is actually lamb and beef together, but beef is fabulous, too and I wouldn't have known it was a combination unless he told me.

Highly recommended.
