The minimum wage in Ireland for a 39 hours working week works out at around:

28 939 560 Won.

A hagwon at 2.2 million Won pays around:

26 400 000 Won a year.

Of course, the apartment, low tax rate and cost of living do something to offset the poor wage, but if saving a bit of bob is your aim, then living with Mammy for a year AND THEN seeing the world etc. is then an option.

Irish people, in general, don't have to pay off high loans like the Canadians and can get a job a helluva lot easier by the sound of things.

That sucks. You do realize that shit is only at the beginning. As soon as things start rolling downhill, the ball will pick up more snow.

the point i'm making is Americans/ canadians/ kiwis are all talking about poor exchange rates, we have one of the worst and our country is more expensive than all three of these

I didn't come out here for the money because when i came here 1,000,000 was only 845 and my contract had me making 28,000,000 a year (working saturdays). (only pays about 23 grand per year) but it's just been the last2 months where the price has fallen from 800 per million to 607!!

saying that, if i hadn't of come i here i couldn't have visited so many countries so easily or have experienced the delight of kimchi!

also being from ireland, im almost pretty sure that you have to pay fees on your masters degree!!!

your only entitled to 4 years free undergrad education.

but then a masters is never really more than 5 or 6 grand anyway. not like 20 or 30 in the states!

if you are a mature student (over 23 years of age) and are earning less than 39,000 a year then it is free to do your masters on the islan of Ireland, i will be doing mine in Belfast.

there are a few stipulations, to go as an independent mature student you must have an address in the county you are applying to recieve tha grant from as of november 1st the year prior to undertaking the masters.

or

you can go as a dependent mature student (under your parents) together your income and your parents must be also less then 39,000 a year.

i will be going for the latter, as my dad is my only parent and i have been working here for a year so my income is nil, even with the crappy exchange rate of the won to Euro i could still prob scrape in under it as i only recieved 9 months wages here in 2007 and i got pretty much zero back home.

you can get it without being a mature student, so ong as your parents earn less than the 39,000 limit, they will way up until 7,000 in fees and will provide a maintenance grant throughout the year, approx 3,200 for the year.

but remember if you are going as an independent mature student you must be in Ireland, in any of the 26 counties at the end of october / start of November and have proof of address ( this must be a utility bill not a bank statement or credit card bill because these can be sent anywhere)

that rule is stupid cos my g.f is over here working too but she can;t get it because her parents earn too much and she was not in Ireland on the cut off date of November. the reason it's stupid is cos she is working over here, for what is now less than minimum wage back home and she is not claiming any taxes ( i know she is also not paying any either) but those who are on the dole would be eligible to recieve the grant.
