ARRHGGG!!!

I just emailed my school from which I just graduated from this month, and they said it would take 90 days from mid-June for the diploma to be ready for me!

Now I'm applying for jobs starting this August (Public Schools) and without my diploma, would it would be impossible to get the E2 visa??

I did a search on consulate websites and such, and it seems there are 2 other alternates:
- Certificate of academic degree
- Certificate of graduation that lists acquisition of diploma

Is this a letter from the registrar at my school that basically says, "Ms. Blah has completed requirements for her degree, and is officially a graduate of X University as of June 30, 2008."

I'm at lost at what to do...I have everything ready for the application and I just found out about this today! I seriously thought it only took a few weeks after graduation to get a diploma...

Does anyone know if this letter plus an apostille (and notarization at consulate?) will suffice??

Has anyone gone through this BS with their schools???

(BTW, I'm applying from United States, NY)

At my alma matter one can get a letter from the registrar stating one has completed all the requirements for one's degree. If your university offers the same, it should be a viable option.

However, this is K-land, and acceptance of such probably depends more on (whether or not) the immigration officer who processes your file is having a good day.

TYPICALLY they ONLY accept the parchment or the certified copy of same.

Good luck to you.

The good news is that you can still get hired in October/November at a public school.

There is no shortage of jobs and with the nonsense that people have to go through to get a visa the shortage of teachers will only increase (meaning many, many more jobs).

To the OP -
The above is true and you're probably SOL until you can produce the original 'sheepskin'.

I assume (always a mistake) you're young and idealistic. Don't be in a hurry to enter the workforce (especially in K-land). After four + years of higher education you should 'kick back' and relax for a couple of months... travel, or do whatever strikes your fancy. Once you plug your degree into 'the machine' your life will never be the same. Wink

Thanks guys...I guess I can make a big scene at the registrars and see what happens.. :/

And thanks cruisemonkey for the advice...you're very right...but I'm not in the situation to be relaxing. There's alot of pressure (and guilt) for me to start making the $$ to begin giving back to my parents (yes I'm Asian lol). Besides, I've worked since my early teens and know no other life other than being a busybee. Smile

I'm applying to EPIK, and let's say if I don't get the diploma on time and miss the orientation...would they still hire me to start in October or November? Seems like they make a big deal about attending the orientation...

I imagine you can call them and ask.....everytime I talked to GEPIk they were pretty flexible with late documents and the like. I had every screw up you could think of.

I love it when people suggest this. And who, exactly, is supposed to pay for all this traveling and relaxing?

OP, when I started my first job in Korea, I got an official paper from the uni stating I had completed the requirements and was simply waiting for the official degree, which my uni only printed at specific times of year. That was good enough then to get hired, but I still had to wait until I got my degree in hand to get my visa. Bureaucracy at its finest.
