The hospital where I work has thirty Oriental medical doctors/professors who provide acupuncture treatment in their areas of speciality. We are located on the South Eastern edge of Seoul on Subway line #5 in Kangdong gu. If you'd like more information, feel free to send me a pm. |

You do realize acupuncture doesn't work? It's largely placebo. There are some studies that indicate sticking needles anywhere in the skin offers some mild pain relief but you could do that yourself without having to pay for it. |

I have read several studies that say acupuncture only has placebo effect, but I would strongly disagree with it from personal experience and the experience of patients who find relief from a wide range of ailments.
I don't believe it is a cure all treatment, but there are certain chronic problems that it certainly provides relief for.
Kyung Hee University's Oriental Medicine College is internationally recognized as leading institute in the promotion of scientific based clinical research in Oriental Medicine. This is the center where I work and the doctors are very skilled at what they do. |

I felt better after i had it done the first time. I haven't gone back because I haven't had the burning in my shoulder for quite some time after that. If it was indeed the acupuncture, I cannot say, but I did feel better after the procedure and am not against trying it again... |

Lotus Clinic, in Apkujeong
Exit 6 Apkujeong Station (Line 3)
go straight; you'll pass the parking lot for Hyndai Dept Store (Exit 6 comes out in front) - keep walking, there's rows of little business storefronts. The second block, upstairs on the 2nd floor. There's a flower shop just past it with lots of blooms outside.
No appt is necessary. Last time to come in is about 5:15; dr is out on Thursdays after 1 pm or so.
K insur covers most of the cost but even if you don't have insur, it's pretty cheap, maybe 15,000 won.
The dr is female and I've been to a few here in K; she's excellent and I totally recommend her.
Acupuncture is the way to go for chronic pain relief and much better than popping pills. |

I'm with you on this. I got into a serious car accident back home a few years ago. Insurance covered my hospital bills, physical therapy, chiropractor and massage therapy. Whenever I felt stiffness in my neck, I would go to the chiropractor and he would snap it back into place.
I came to Korea and felt stiffness again. Often times, it will go away in a day or a couple at most. This time, it stuck around for around a week. I started looking for a chiropractor here but went to get acupuncture. I went in with minimal expectations since I didn't think sticking needles in me could match a chiropractor physically snapping my neck back into place. That night, it got worse but the next day, I was perfectly fine.
It's my only experience with acupuncture but I suppose you can call me a believer now. |

I don't care if it's a placebo. It's WORKS for me.
Heck, I don't believe buhang really gets rid of "bad blood" but it certainly helped get rid of a bruise that was only getting worse and worse on its own.
Edit for a wayward apostrophe.

That's exactly why we do controlled studies. Pain is a subjective experience. Hell, you can give people a sugar pill in a baldness cure trial and they will report the regrowth of hair, merely because they perceive they're growing more hair.
If a placebo does work, then one should figure out what element causes the pain relief. Odds are there's a cheaper, free way to attain it. It's not the needles, just spending 30 minutes with a person in a dark room, nice music, nice smelling oils, etc. So instead of paying a doctor to do that, create your own relaxing atmosphere. |
