It's Sunday morning, nice first day of June and I was out for a walk. I wanted to get some bread at the nearby mom & pop bakery. A customer was just leaving as I walked in, and the pop (only one present) had obviously handled the money. There were several loaves of fresh baked bread on a table and I pointed to one. He picked it up with his hands and carried it into the back. Then I noticed the many flies landing on said bread--as the door was open and there was no wrapping/covering on the bread. Needless to say, I walked out and walked a few blocks more to Tous Le Jour and bought some bread. I'll be buying my bread from there from now on, even if it is a bit more inconvenient!

Even at the public school I work at, I've noticed very few Koreans, even the teachers wash their hands after going to the bathroom. That's why I never eat something a Korean has handed me. Eeuugghh! Mad

In most of the chain stores they use plastic gloves. Aside from that, all too many small bakeries just keep bread until it sells, even if it's a week later. I've talked about this with some Koreans and many of them say that they can't tell the difference between today's and yesterday's bread!

The girl at Baskin Robbins was taking money and scooping ice cream, no gloves and no hand washing. There were 3 people working but no thought to having one person take money.

The Ka-guk-su restaurant lady was wheeling around a cart with kimchi on it, and stopped to arrange shoes before going back to handing out plates of kimchi.

I spy, with my little eye.... someone who has never worked in the food-service industry! Laughing

Yeah, that kind of thing is gross when you see it. But, you once you accept that it (and worse!) happens everywhere, you'll be OK.

Breath deeply and repeat: Everything is going to be juuuust fiiiiine...

I worked in the food industry too, and when I see people handle money and then food, I walk away.
