|
|
Hi all,
I recently accepted a position in Korea that requires me to arrive ASAP.
I have my CRC with VS done, as well as my original diploma.
My school has agreed to send me to Japan for the VISA run.
My question is:
What needs to occur when I arrive in Korea? Do I need to have my documents notorized in Korea? if so where can this be done?
Thanks for your help! |

Have you held an E-2 visa before for 9 months or more?
If not, you won't be able to get your visa in Japan. You will have to have an interview at a Korean consulate in your home country to get one.
If you have had an E-2 visa before, you can get one in Japan but by the sounds of things your school wants you to work illegally while you're getting your paperwork sorted. I would highly advise against this cause if you get caught, you're the one who'll be in serious shite not the school. And don't expect them to come running to help you either.
As for your docs, you need to get the CBC and degree apostilled (not if you're a Canadian though. You need to get them notarized by your embassy) which is easier done in your home country than when you're in Korea. |

Kool-Aid, there's a huge red flag. Your new school wants you to come here to work without a proper working visa. That is ILLEGAL, your school doesn't care that it's illegal and if anyone gets busted, YOU will be the one deported and blacklisted from Korea. Nothing will happen to the school (well, possibly a small fine at most).
Do not agree to do it. Get your E-2, then come to Korea.
Also, is your school asking you to pay for your first ticket to Korea while they pay for the Japanese visa run (if even possible per BigBuds comment)? |

Don't do it bro...
Too many things could go wrong and YOU will be the one stuck holding the bag when things go wrong... which they always do when you're dealing with immigration.
Stay home. Get your visa. It's only another couple of weeks. If this job can't wait for you, there will be another job in a few days/weeks that you can take. |

30,000 job openings every year.
17,000 applicants last year.
There is NO rush and certainly no need for an ASAP situation.
Take your time and do it right.
They usually want/need an ASAP teacher for a number of reasons that are NOT in your favor:
a) bad planning on their part and they couldn't hire someone in time to replace the leaving teacher.
b) They had a runner.
c) the offer is so bad that they want you committed before you have a chance to look at other offers.
d) they botched the application for the last teacher and it fell through.
e) pick the next one of your choosing.
Get your paperwork done, get your visa, get on the plane, have 1 less thing to worry about.
