After National Walk Out Day will be National Rehiring Day
Sounds like a good idea on paper, but . . . |

Yep - sounds great in theory. practicalities are less clear.
it took years and not a few deaths to get trade union rights in th UK and US. I think Korea is not ripe for this yet.
Stuff needs to be done about the release letter fiasco but it needs to be done by lobbying/legal test cases and will take time.

I knew of a hagwon that tried a walkout for better wages. So they were all yeah, we are gonna stick it up the boss. There were 8 of them but when it come to the crunch time only 2 of them did it. the other 6 wussed out and the 2 got fired. I can see it happening. yeah, we will stick it to Korea but there a lot of spineless people here only worried about self-interest(me included to some degree). never work plus some people are really happy with their situation. why would they strike???? |

I was just kidding. And I don't want to be arrested for starting illegal labor activities
I would like to see an end to that release letter requirement though. I wish we could own our own visa. Yes, it's been discussed here before. Sorry.
I was also thinking it would be nice to have a small section in the herald for foreign teachers where we could ask questions and get answers about various issues. |

Ahh, the glorious days of striking!!! I led a walkout in Holland once. We were oppressed and overworked irish migrants who rebelled against the Dutch "work, work, long hours and overtime at a moments notice" work practice. I was the union leader and negociator a la Arthur scargill. Of 11 workers, myself and 2 others were the only ones who didn't back down. The rest crumbled under the threat of having their deposits withheld...
Ultimately, a small compromise from management allowed us to step down and return to work- joining the other sheep...
I was the supervisor. my boss never spoke to me again and I worked my final weeks in tense standoff..... |

So who is willing to hang themself from a shipyard crane or set themselves ablaze to garner attention to the cause?
Not many, I suspect.
