Thoughts, opinions?
A dear friend of mine who recently passed was from there, and I feel an inclination to make a trip over. Not sure what I can expect, though... so far the two main attractions seem to be a beer factory (not interested) and skiing in February (not a skier).
Anything else that would make a trip there worthwhile?
Thank you! |

| I loved Sapporo. The women are amazing looking. Winter is pretty cool. The city is unlike anything you've seen in Asia. |

My ex-gf hometown was Sapporo so i went there maybe 10 times...
I loved Hakkaido, not for the cities but the national parks in the middle of the island are breathtaking...some of the most amazing scenery i have ever seen.
Sapporo itself is cool as well and downtown is well planned out....
However it is is frigging freezing in winter, I come from Brisbane, australia so Sapporo was like nothing I had ever experienced cold-wise, makes Korea fell like summer....however the ice festival is awesome..

Even more so a little bit due to the isolation from the rest of the country...some goods were a little bit more expensive than Tokyo but marginally. |

Cheers for that. Sounds like a really interesting place. It'd be interesting to see the Russian-controlled area and then see the Japanese islands and compare the level of development. |

| Hokkaido is seen by many people in Japan as the best place to live in the country (in terms of lifestyle). It's clean, has amazing food, lots of nature, and is cheaper than Tokyo. And I second the women there being great looking, and just plain cool in general. |

Does that equate to Sapporo being North American/Australian in appearance? |

If you are interested in thoroughbred horses, Hokkaido is the centre of Japan's breeding industry.
A visit to Northern Farm is well worthwhile- owned by Katsume Yoshida who cleaned up 1st & 2nd place in the Melbourne Cup of 2006. |
