I've been through all the stickies and done a lot of searches but have yet to find a definitive thread describing a proper timeline for leaving Korea.

I am set to work my last day at the end of June and fly out on July 1st. I am wondering when I should expect to receive my final paycheck, severance, etc. I have heard many people say that you should get your serverance before you leave; others say that by law your employer is not required to pay it until up to a month after your contract is up so it's ok to leave without it.

When you're finishing up and ready to roll, what kind of timeframe is acceptable to make sure you're paid everything you're owed?

do not leave the country until you are paid. a few days before you finish, ask your employer for a definite window (as in, 2-4 pm) on the last day by which you can expect to have the money in your account. make sure they know you will expect to have it in that time frame, no exceptions.

Agreed...I wouldn't go anywhere without that cash in hand.

Usually...you should get your last month's salary...and severance payment...on an agreed upon day, at an agreed upon time.

Plus...it never hurts to get that agreement in writing...stamped and signed.

ALL good hakwons WILL pay you out, IN FULL on your last or 2nd last day of work (less any outstanding bills you may have).

Any hakwon who tries or even suggests anything else is questionable and you can rest assured that there is no-way to collect from a hakwon AFTER you have left Korea.

When does your visa expire? If it expires in June, you'd better get an extension for July 1st. The visa expiration date is on the front (or back if you've been here more than a year) of your ARC.

i'm finishing om june 27 and flying out the exact same date as you. our school pays you in advance, a few days before your last day, mine said they will either pay into my account or just give me the cash.

Then my school is really good and there is absolutly nothing dodgy about them so i'm happy enough, what's your school like? did the previous teachers have any problems??

No one else has had any problems, but other events have lead me to believe the director is of questionable integrity.

...the small table supporting the silver cans filled with reddish liquid isn't part of the movie though. Laughing

What about at the end of a contract at a PS. What kinds of experiences have people had with severance? When did you get it? Were there any problems?
